    Hip Hop, Dying or Dead?

a reformation would need a counterculture (or counter project) to mainstream media. hip hop is not dead, nor dying, but on the surface, it is soaked with corporate interest. you'd need a radio/tv/internet/(print?) platform on a smaller scale, specializing in more ambitious/positive music, maybe...

Dunno if this happens to anyone else, but you ever noticed when working with MC's....

when i write to an instrumental of some other artist, i always cut out 4 bars from the middle and loop them, because any intros, drops, bridges, outros rip me out of concentration and it's hard to get back into the flow. take dilla's beat tapes for instance. it was mostly 30-40 second...

i don't like beats with too much going on in them for writing rhymes either. 4 bars loop tops, everything else should be arrangement, otherwise i feel like it dictates what to do with it. sometimes it's cool, but most of the time i prefer a simple hypnotic loop for writing.

What do you focus on when making drums?

groove definitely, i usually start off with chopping and rearranging a break, and then add some instrument sample chops (with comp) and see where that takes me. next come some drum layers to make the drum sound fit the sample. i used to heavily compress drum sounds from the beginning but then i...

    Maschine, ok ya

it's worth checking out, cause the stretching function is easy to use and it sounds good. it takes quite some stretching before it starts jittering (compared to *cough* other companies' stretching algorithms) you can't use it in maschine though, since CE has no vst interface. i'm already...

it's in the multi tracker. you can activate time stretching by clicking on the clock symbol. i used to chop loops with cmd+k and then stretch them. you can then resave the chops or slices with a right-click and click "save sound as individual sample" or something like that, don't remember. i'm...

don't wait for time stretch. however, you'll be able to load vst, so there should be work arounds. on a side note, i always loved cool edit's time stretch function, where you could just stretch a clip to make it fit the bar, so you could always fill gaps.

It has swing, but it does not equal the MPC quantization and swing algorithms. Also the vintage modes are really nice, but it is not the same thing. An SP is an SP. However, I value Maschine for what it is and for what is still to come, and I would never sell it.

    Merry Christmas To All

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to yo guys too! Stay healthy and keep them bangers coming. What's up with Illmuzik in 2011? Any plans? I guess you need a Glitch Beat Battle and some advanced tutorials on that, because kids are going crazy on this right now. Pce Mono

i still want an sp (and an mpc), for the sound. look at damu, he doesn't need no software, and his beats are the sickest. exile too. but I'm afraid I'm too lazy from the usability comforts of maschine already. i bought the sp404 some time ago, but i barely touch it. i dont touch my asr either...

    Way to go London!

I disagree with that. I have studied both in Germany and in the UK and I have mixed feelings on the tutions topic: On one hand I envied British students for the modern labs and equipment, top notch computers, utopian bandwidth and stuff, on the other I realized that all that doesn't guarantee...
