How do you, vinyl heads, find your samples?

Whenever I go out to buy, the majority of what I buy comes from researching the artist or past experiences good or bad, but I always gamble on 3-4 records of which I have no prior knowledge. Then from the gamble I always learn something plus I have found plenty of diamonds in the rough. But...

During the halftime show of the Bayou Classic Grambling's Marching Band not only played Laffy Taffy, but they stood in a formation that spelled out "Laffy".

This southern b.s has gone to far(laffy taffy)

Laffy Taffy and Bobblehead are huge here in Texas. The weaker the beat the more popular they are.

who is the greatest rapper alive?

    1. Common, as Cold said he only lost points on the Electric Circus experiment, but at least he pushed the envelope 2. Andre 3000, he gets weirder everyday, but at least he pushes the envelope 3. Mos Def, many different flows and he's not afraid to push the envelope. Follow the Logic? 4. Del...

    sp1200

I could never get rid of mine. I use it on every track. Sometimes just as an effect, but drums are the sickest. I use it in conjuction with an eps-16+ and software sequencers. I slave it to whatever I need to . The sequencer is tight on it as well. I used the 1200 by itself for about 2...

    [Disc.][NaS]

Both are good, no, better than good. I will go as far to say that God Son was stronger lyrically and on production. But, Stillmatic came so strong on the streets cuz of the resurrection of the street's disciple and the Jay-z onslaughts. If I had to pick between only having one or the other I...

    They can't be Serious!!!

They are trying to be campy just as minstrel shows were. They are mocking that type of entertainment. Graphic Design is about evoking emotion and they got you saying that is lame, that being the premise of minstrel shows.

    UK emcees diss Common

The song sucked, Class was right they have no context. The dudes have white girlfriends so they are hyper sensitive and paranoid. Plus it gives them a a reason to jack his beat. Common may never hear it and if he does he shouldn't pay it anymind. On a similar note does anyone remember when...

    Panning?

Imagine you are at a live show and try to recreate the stage placement. However in hip hop there are no set rules.

    Just Blaze Video!!

I just saw Alchemist's in the Lab on Mtv. He didn't really show any secrets, but he spoke about his process of brainstorming. Another thing he said is that he likes to mix down while monitoring through a boom box because he said that is the hip hop sound that he is most familiar with...

    What Equipment Does a Producer

Anyone know what DJ Krush uses?

    Why hardware

For me its the punch. Coming from the timing of the sequencer and from the analog filters. Basically, its about the sound, I always resequence with software, but keep analog as long as possible to keep the punch and crunch.

    not hip hop?

Swing is some what different between them. Rock beats often lack any swing, most Hip hop rhythms swing more, but that is because soul and jazz are sampled alot. But hip hop is amorphous so sometimes they're similar, other times not. Imagine the difference between 99 Problems and Sucka Nigga.
