Well, help me with this: Why do you buy MPC's when you can import sounds of akai format to your computer (definitely, more cheap)? There are converters and vstis that support the format. Then, why buy it when you only have to get the soundbank cds? Thanks

it boils down to a matter of "WHAT WORKS FOR ME!" now you have some cats who came up using hardware so they feel cool with that,and can do what you can do on your PC. I come from Hardware i remember SP12's, JD8's MPC60's shit i remember when the MPC2k hit the streets! we was trying to get Clucks to clip one for us....good times goooooood times!but my point is "WHAT WORKS FOR ME" and thats the bottom line feeling good with YOUR gear. hope this helps. PLUS the MPC pads just feel sooooooooo damn good!

for me using both hardware provides a feel you just can't get with software. I get stuff done quicker on hardware than software. I chop faster, sequence way faster and my drum patterns are always iller on the MP. I have been using reason for about 2 and half years, but the MP 4000 is king due to timing interface and how quick I can have a track finished. Everything is already there. I don't need cool edit recyle and waves just to get a song done. Right from the turntable into the MPC into my AW16G and out to potential people who want to hear. But softarwe is taking over. I'm just waitng to see some sort of hybrid system. or another MPC that can load the softsampler formats. But until you used the MP its kind of hard to explain.

What I think hes asking is why buy hardware(MPC) when you can get sound cds and download sounds from the PC. Demian, I dont know if you realize this, but mpc's do not come with sounds already pre-loaded in them. My 1000 came with a flash card with a few drum sounds where 99% of them were whack. I dont know but the mpc 2000, 3000, & 4000 dosnt come with any sounds(correct me if im wrong). You load your own sounds into the MPC from where ever you want. People dont buy an MPC for sounds, they buy it because its a powerful tool to use once you get the hang of it.

- Spot on timing, the sampler is internal so theres no latency over midi, to bad its an s2000 engine.
- Spot on sequencer, no s/w sequencer can compare
- plain simpel but effective drumprogramming, the things you can do when using your hands instead of the mouse.
- Raw analogue output power, hardware dynamics are huge compared to software.

I thought people mostly got it because of the soundbanks. Where do u get the soundbanks if you dont buy cds?

Naw ppl mostly get MPC for one of 3 reasons,

1. The PAds: To be able to really bang out your beats sometimes it feels more creative than using a mouse and clicking off, but thats all personal preference.

2. Because of the sequencer, the MPC hands down has the best sequencer out of any thing hard ware or software wise that MPc timing is the king for Hip Hop, and plus its just too easy!

3. the dickryda factor, A lot of would be producers jus get an MPC because thier favorite producer has one or they heard a certain beat was made on one..


Its got nothing to do with sound cuz there aint ne stock sounds on an mPC, But at the end its all prefference wht works best for u
Personally i rock on an MPC and on Fl studio, and for some beats i use boths it depends how i feel u know/

I got 2 mpc2kxl, ESI2K/4k, S750 and there lots of s/w samplers i used or have used. EXS24 is nice, really phat filtering, Fruityloops as a break generator, just making patterns, dump em to audio and load into sampler via audio in to beef shit up nicely. Recycle is also a good option for either editing loops or dumping directly to sampler, I mean the sky's the limit here when combining both. Hooking up linplug RMIV to the mpc pads is a joy too, especialy when the pc is slaved to the mpc open up a whole different ballgame, more intuitive with vst's and you can turn of your tft and listen to the music for once...

I myself have an MPC because I hate doing drum patterns with a keyboard! I just can't get that feel with a keyboard or a mouse. The MPC more or less runs my whole set up. It came with a disc; but I never even listened to what was on it; because I was too busy diggin' for my own ish.

people get teh mp for the sequencer.... i know very few people getting it "for" soundbanks. most mpc users eitehr have an external sound module/keyboard and/or dig for their samples. many buy the premade drum kits from places like bangin beats... but i'd say that while there are people who do purchase soundbanks for it, i would say those people are in the minority.

the sequencer, the "hands on" feel, the pads, and just the overall workflow are what i loved about it personally.

For me its the punch. Coming from the timing of the sequencer and from the analog filters. Basically, its about the sound, I always resequence with software, but keep analog as long as possible to keep the punch and crunch.

While we are talking about hardware, I got another question...

Is there a difference in sound quality when using hardware? I mean, if I use the SAME samples, will the final project sound better on hardware or software?

I'm not talking about quality of composition or feel of the beat, but about quality. Are the FX better on hardware (Compression, EQ, Reverb, etc...), are they similar ?

Hmm, well either content is digital, however you look at it, there's a digital source and no analogue osc. So it depends what you're comparing since all samplers have different ad/da converters same for soundcards. Also when talking the benefits of analogue, you'd need more equipement to gain the quality you can derrive from it. So in order to sustain the quality in your setup, anything in signalpath must be up to par with the rest. I mean, you wont use an MPC's output on a berhinger compressor and record it on a EMU or PT system or record with U67 through a 1176 on a SB16!. Same with balanced output, if you got high quality gear you'll use balanced because then it serves the purpose of actually aquiring that expensive piece of gear (or any piece of gear).IMO mixing/blending through a console sounds better then rendering on any pc since adding/subtracting voltages doesnt really equate to calculating 0's and 1's.

I had this battle for a while, then I put my degree to the test. WHen you sample something into the MPC you getting the electonics that were made to funtion for that purpose. Thats why most hardware gives a great sound and people don't want to stop using it, In the software world you are using genereal purpose electronics to do many tasks, so the sound will be different. SO when you see that gear has the same sampleing specs its true but just like humans different electonic parts come together to make up the soul of a instrument or soundcard.

i don't get caught on the whole summing thing and analog thing...... there are quality plugins and shit plugins there are quality hardware peices and shit peices... as for summing i get sounds that are dope totally itb (apart from in the way in which is whatever mic into focusrite isa 428 with whatever mic i use from my selectrion) and know i can get as good or better a sound than alot of people who swear by summing analog compression, eq tape delay, plate verb even the whole sp-12 using gear (plugins etc. that performs the same duties very competently (sonar, kontakt, plgunis for eq compression verb delay etc.) and wavelab for mastering and sample editing (making programs for kontakt setting up loop times etc.)

really high end gear is only going to show off a weak producers inadequacy to the trained ear
