    A midi controller is not ONLY to play a melody, the thing is, playing with a midi controller, a finger trigger, etc... is to have a more human feel to a beat. Being able to play it helps but it's not necessary to play around with it... having different velocities, having a beat with more swing...

    That, of course, depends on what type of hiphop you're reffering to... if you're talking about some orcherstrated "The Roots" kind, well, yeah, a trained musician can play that shit... but, of course, he needs to know hiphop and have creative skills... Thing is, hiphop dont really have a set...

    ^^^^good idea (the crunch sound thing) I layer my percussions, but I also layer basses and piano, to give it a more full sound, while EQing them differently.

    ^^^^that's why I was asking... the instrumental and the beat got to be identical ofr that to work... And as I said, I'm guessing that finding a acapella is as hard as finding the exact beat in instrumental... but I may be wrong...
