My guess is (if I'm mistaken, some others could respond) passive speakers have a flat response, meaning they wont color your beat (no addition of bass or treble... it will sound clean, as it should sound) and active would/could boost some frequencies... But I'm not 100% sure on that one... -

What are those other programs and do you need to use them at the same time as you're using FL? A quick way to get rid of it would be to open those other programs after you open FL or not using them at all or to change you FL midi configuration so the conflict goes away... But I cant say more... -

My only guess is that this particular sound is simply a question of sound source... I listen to a lot of jazz too (those keys are extra smooth) and my guess is that they use really good pianos and they mic those really good, to get the real sounds. The effects come after, in my opinion... If... -

What's the exact setting window that appears? The Midi Settings? The Audio Settings? Cuz I know that it can appear if there is a conflict or if you're using 2 programs that use the same ressource, or if you didn't set up your midi... Could be one of those reasons... just a guess. -
