Haha, I guess it's pretty self explainitry - whats the purpose of a filter in any context? A filter in terms of music or electronic music is no different...you are removing certain aspects of the sound [well frequencies] and what you are left with is only what you 'let through' the filter. -

Yeah, the possibilties are endless but you don't even have to limit yourself to drum/percussion sound when layering for drums - you can put a bass note behind a kick and actually get a really booming, bassy sound - a right beast of a sound, lol. And you can layer the reverb from another... -

HipHop 12'' singles will normally have the single, sometimes a radio edit or remix, then both the instrumental and acapella on it too. Just go buy a few singles you like...also, the fact that they have the instrumental on there too is pretty useful as you can hear even more clearly what kind of... -

I signed yesterday, man. I didn't hear the show, but I think from what you said about it something has to be done, its just completely irresponsible. As few people have already said, I'm sure there wouldn't have been any humourous remarks if this had happened in the US.- Lex

What effects do you use to alter your sounds?
A couple of my friends left their guitars, amps and distortion/effects pedals round my house last time we jammed, and I did the same sort of thing...I recorded some hi hats and put them through a phaser setting on one one of the effects pedals, tried soem delays and reverse settings with delays... -

Nice clip, I see what people mean about Jay-Z's arrogance, but he showed he had a lot of respect for others in that clip too [the part where talk about Rick Rubin and The Beatsies etc.] I have to say, I 'm nto actualyl a huge Jay-Z fan, but that clip actually inspired me quite a lot.- Lex

Choosing instruments
Definately know what you mean there - but at times it's pretty cool to put stuff that you wouldn't normally hear or expect together, as sometimes you get some really interesting sound - I've found a few a mix of ethnic samples which you wouldn't normally throw together suit eachother...
