    UK Stand UK

At the moment it is a bit of nightmare, with its little screen and page scrolling, but when I get my laptop I'm connecting it all up via SCSI and controlling it with Mesa which should make things a lot easier, plus you can import WAVs ans stuff fom your hardisk and process them with the...

    "Mastering Compression" Article

Thats called multi-band compression. You apply compression to certain frequency ranges indepently - say all the low frequemces of a given piece of audio will be compressed by a certain amount, and another frequency range will compressed by a different amoutn or in a different way [the ratio or...

Is there a better reverb plug-in for Cubase SX?

I know what you mean about that metallic ringing sound actually, although I've never been able to hear it when its mixed in - basically I've only ever noticed it when I solo the track in Cubase, and even then with more subtle reverbs its still not that obvious. I'd still be interested in...

    Swing on beats

I've only ever applied swing to hihats or ride cymbals - but thats just because most of the time I find stuff doesn't need to have any swing on the snares or kicks to make it sound a little more organic.

    Illmuzik T-Shirts......

Aren't there like 800 members, lol? Anyway, I have a little experience in designing and getting tees printed [me and some friends did some a while back]. I suggest screen printing, expecially if you can manage to keep the designs to 2 colours - which can actually still mean some really bright...

For Those of You who play Instruments...

I play the drums and it how I first got into beatmaking/producing so I can't say it hasn't helped me. Playing the drums influences my beats without a doubt - wether directly in the sense that I'd be playing a pattern on my drums then just reproduce it with a step sequencer, or more in directly...

What sequencer have you completely mastered???

I've been using Cubase and Fl together sicne I started. All I use Cubase for is arrangeing my loops and structuring my tracks, as well as messing around with the automation and very occasionally using some VSTs. I occasionally use the processing plugins simply because they're so quick. I...

Just listened to Marvin Gaye's "Whats Goin On Album" straight through the first time

My mum is a huge Marvin Gaye fan, so I was exposed to all his music all the time. I ripped all the albums so I could listen to them while on my computer too. Truly timeless as you say...everything he wrote about is 100% relevant today. As for people saying R'n'B is whack, I think it is...

    what is layering?

Cool, I hope it helps you get that sound you want. When you start experimenting with panning, volume the posibilties when layering are pretty much endless - you can end up tweaking stuff to the edge of your sanity.

How did you fall in love with Hiphop?

I first hip hop I heard was all from old school stuff - De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie boys etc.. I actually loved the strong emphasis on the drums and funk music from which most of the songs were made. The catchy, syncopted rhyming just seemed so differtn to other genres and most...

    what is layering?

I'm not sure if this is a solution as such, but it could definately help - use a sampled drum hit that was played with bushes or just from jazz music - the snares alwmost always have a crisp snap to them with virtually no decay. This is perfect for crisp sounding snares, although you have to...

Whats your Process when CHoppin Samples ?

I sort of do the opposite, I have the overall sound of the track in my head [including the kind of melody] but I'll start with the drums and bass, then work the melody over the top. I normally do stuff like that if I have a preconcieved idea - but when I find a particular sample I like I'll chop...
