Damn I Lost My Beats ,most Of Them!

Good point. I think funk and soul have both been sampled the most [probably in equal parts], then jazz. I think funk and soul were definately sampled before jazz, because if you htink about it A Tribe Called Quest's 'Low End Theory' was the first HipHop LP to be completly made up of jazz... -

I think if you really had to narrow it down, a stereotypical hiphop track is 93bpm...lol, I have actually heards so many tracks at just over 90bpm, but its not really fair to say a genre has a certain range of tempos, expecially in hiphop where a lot of the time it depends on the sample. I... -

I'm really not into R&B to be honest [I'm talking about the music now labelled R&B...The old stuff is genious and most certainly laid some foundations for all kinds of genres we know today]... I love incorporating elements of jazz and trip hop into my music though, and occasionally D'n'B kind... -

Isn't that just like writer's block? I'm sure everyone is going to or already has experienced it at some point. Its not exactly unproductive to leave it for a few days, relax and come back to it when you feel like it or when you have a particular idea. -

Apple unviels "Mini-Mac"....
I'm not too keen on the i-Pod shuffle myself - considering its capacity, which is what 512MB?, an i-Pod Mini is much better value..20gb if I remember correctly. And on the i-Pos shuffle you can only listen to the songs in the order you put them on there, plus there is no screen. Meh, looks like...- Lex

what do you look for when sampling?
Yeah completely, man. I think its awful to only sample a particular music genre.....I mean, sampling the same kind of stuff will inevitably give you a recognisable sound [well at least between you own songs...] but it will most certainlly limit your creativity and diversity when beat... -

Alchemist makes some tight stuff...The tracks he did with Dilated Peoples were some of my favourites [I think a little biased as I really like Dilated - intelligent flows and nice cuts...], and on that note I think Evidence is pretty underrated too.- Lex

DAMN it!!! I hate when I found a hot sample and it happens to be a known one!!
In my opinon, if you alter the sample enough, or even if it just suits you beat enough, I actually see no reason why you shouldn't use it. And if you came across the same sample as you say you did, pretty much by chance, its not like you're copying Just Blaze anyway. EDIT - my browser fucked... -
what do you look for when sampling?
I like sampling single drum hits. Sample, say, two kicks, a snare and a couple of hats and its virtually impossible to tell what record you sampled from in some cases. Just a few hits can keep you as busy as finding a perfect piano loop or guitar lick - messing with the hits after you can make... -

I completely know what you mean, in that UK artists should make stuff that they might actually play in clubs....but in a way its kinda cool at the moment - Its scene that has not yet been subject to commercialisation and artists within the scene rarely sound the same. Which is undoubtedly a good...- Lex
