Damn I Lost My Beats ,most Of Them!

I'm off to put everything on DVD now!!! I've heard so many people say the've lost theier work so I keep meaning to back up my sample library and project files onto DVD but never get round to it.....All I have at the moment is one floppy disk with 8 or so Cubase SX files. Now...if I could...

would it be correct to say that Old Soul music is that most sampled genre?

Good point. I think funk and soul have both been sampled the most [probably in equal parts], then jazz. I think funk and soul were definately sampled before jazz, because if you htink about it A Tribe Called Quest's 'Low End Theory' was the first HipHop LP to be completly made up of jazz...

    Choosing instruments

Just choose intruments and sample stuff till they fit the image of the track that you have in your head [ I don't know if most people work like this, but I normally do...I usually already have the sound I want in my head, its just a case of using the right instruments and patterns, filtering and...

AARRRGGHH, I can't take it anymore!!!!

Of course, everyone's gonna have different opinons...so there can never be any one undisputed great of hip hop, in the same way their can be no single greatest song [although some might argue differently on the albums tip..] Anyway, no-one mentioned Shadow? [!!!]LOL, The guy is a genious, in...

    Illmuzik Decals

Nice idea, man...tees and stickers would be cool. Who's designing them? Is going to be an open thing where everyone submits designs then the best one(s) are chosen?

AARRRGGHH, I can't take it anymore!!!!

Haha.. There is no doubt that Dre's an amazing producer and has such an amazing list of hits under his belt, but I think wether or not he is 'THE greatest producer of all time' could be dispusted.

    what happened to the wmd

I'm not sure if its appropriate for me to comment because I live in the UK, but I can't believe so many people didn't even vote for the 'lesser of two evils', Kerry, who's regime wasn't all that disimilar to Bush's if you think about it.. ..Arrrg I hate politicts.

    Tempo Genres

I think if you really had to narrow it down, a stereotypical hiphop track is 93bpm...lol, I have actually heards so many tracks at just over 90bpm, but its not really fair to say a genre has a certain range of tempos, expecially in hiphop where a lot of the time it depends on the sample. I...

who on here makes RnB/Soul type beats/songs as well?

I'm really not into R&B to be honest [I'm talking about the music now labelled R&B...The old stuff is genious and most certainly laid some foundations for all kinds of genres we know today]... I love incorporating elements of jazz and trip hop into my music though, and occasionally D'n'B kind...

Have you ever been through this??

''Producer's Block'',...lol a special form of writer's block which only producers can fall victim to. I just get inspierd quite easily, not even necesarily by music I'm listening to or things going on around me...Even paintings or some unusual architecture I see can be inspiring [well, to me...

Have you ever been through this??

Isn't that just like writer's block? I'm sure everyone is going to or already has experienced it at some point. Its not exactly unproductive to leave it for a few days, relax and come back to it when you feel like it or when you have a particular idea.

    Any RPG fans?

Not all that into FF and the like, and I hardly never jam on my playstation anymore....I wanna get a Sega Megadrive, lol...and go back to the days of Street Fighter. That stuff was quality.

    Premo Beats...

That post was spot on man...Premier and his affiliates laid down the foundations for a very significant portion of today's hiphop, and without him hiphop would not sound the way it does today [which, arguably, could be a good thing..lol]. Anyway, whats wrong with a little simplicity every now...

    Apple unviels "Mini-Mac"....

I'm not too keen on the i-Pod shuffle myself - considering its capacity, which is what 512MB?, an i-Pod Mini is much better value..20gb if I remember correctly. And on the i-Pos shuffle you can only listen to the songs in the order you put them on there, plus there is no screen. Meh, looks like...

what do you look for when sampling?

Yeah completely, man. I think its awful to only sample a particular music genre.....I mean, sampling the same kind of stuff will inevitably give you a recognisable sound [well at least between you own songs...] but it will most certainlly limit your creativity and diversity when beat...

    Just Bleeeeeeeeeezy

Alchemist makes some tight stuff...The tracks he did with Dilated Peoples were some of my favourites [I think a little biased as I really like Dilated - intelligent flows and nice cuts...], and on that note I think Evidence is pretty underrated too.

DAMN it!!! I hate when I found a hot sample and it happens to be a known one!!

In my opinon, if you alter the sample enough, or even if it just suits you beat enough, I actually see no reason why you shouldn't use it. And if you came across the same sample as you say you did, pretty much by chance, its not like you're copying Just Blaze anyway. EDIT - my browser fucked...

what do you look for when sampling?

I like sampling single drum hits. Sample, say, two kicks, a snare and a couple of hats and its virtually impossible to tell what record you sampled from in some cases. Just a few hits can keep you as busy as finding a perfect piano loop or guitar lick - messing with the hits after you can make...

    IF you dont know Lowlife...

I completely know what you mean, in that UK artists should make stuff that they might actually play in clubs....but in a way its kinda cool at the moment - Its scene that has not yet been subject to commercialisation and artists within the scene rarely sound the same. Which is undoubtedly a good...

    IF you dont know Lowlife...

Fair enough...I just like the way Mark B & Blade work togetehr so well...it just sounds right. And yeah, Lowkey's tight too.
