An eight-year-old boy died after he accidentally shot himself in the head with an Uzi submachine gun at a gun fair in the US.
Christopher Bizilj of Ashford, Connecticut, pointed the deadly weapon at a pumpkin under the eyes of an instructor and pulled the trigger as his dad reached for a camera.
But the recoil of the automatic weapon was too great and he lost control of the gun.
He was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Sunday after the incident at the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo at the Westfield Sportsman's Club.
His father, Charles, said he was just 10 feet behind his son and reaching for his camera when the weapon fired.
Mr Bizlij, the director of emergency medicine at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford, Connecticut, said he let his son try the Uzi because it was a 'small' weapon with little recoil.
He said: "This accident was truly a mystery to me This is a horrible event, a horrible travesty, and I really don't know why it happened."

A police investigation is under way and officers are checking weapons permits of the shooting club.
Massachusetts requires gun fans to apply for a license to own firearms, but the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives issues different licenses to possess machine guns.
Lt Hipolito Nunez of Westfield police said: "The weapon was loaded and ready to fire. The eight-year-old victim had the Uzi and as he was firing the weapon, the front end of the weapon went up with the backfire and he ended up receiving a round in his head."
An Uzi or AK-47 should never be in the hands of an eight-year-old. It's a weapon of war.
Jerry Belair, a spokesman for Stop Handgun Violence
Jerry Belair, a spokesman for Massachusetts-based Stop Handgun Violence, said: "It's used on a battlefield by trained soldiers.
"It's easy to lose control of a weapon like that ... they are used on a battleground for a very good reason.
"It's to shoot as many times as you possibly can without having to reload at an enemy that's approaching. It's not a toy. It's not something to play with."
The machine gun shoot drew crowds of hundreds, with adverts promising demonstrations and rentals and free handgun lessons with no permits or licenses required.
Children under 16 were admitted free, and both adults and children were offered free .22-caliber pistol and rifle shooting.

Yesterday, an idiot father and and even more brain-dead “instructor” allowed an eight-year-old boy to fire a fully automatic Uzi submachine gun at an event billed as, “all legal and and fun! — No permits or licenses required!!!” Naturally, the gun kicked up, as it is designed to do, flipping toward the child who managed to shoot himself in the head with it. Since kids’ heads aren’t all that heavily armored, we now have a little boy who will never see his ninth birthday.
So, little Christopher Bizilj is dead, dead, dead. His father, Dr. Charles Bizilj, director of emergency medicine (if you can believe it) at a hospital in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, got to watch his son bleed out from a head wound on the floor. And the people who put this little event together have to look at themselves in their mirrors and ask themselves the simple question, “What the FUCK made me think it was a good idea to put a submachine gun in a child’s hands?”
