    I agree the best starting point is having a decent condenser mic ...but it is industry standard that vocals be compressed and eq'ed no matter what studio it was recorded in, ask any engineer ...it may not be heavy processing of course but it is used on every commercially released song...

    you always need extra signal processing when mixing any vocals no matter the person, mainly eq and compression, I personally like to use a gate also if not you'll have parts throughout that are louder or lower than others and less audible are u saying just record and adjust the gain up...

    I had the same problem when I first started recording a MC that is white that I work with you usually have to do more to make it sound louder and audible because they're voices tend to have less bass and a higher pitch, some black people do too but its more prevalent amongst caucasians...

    I used to do the same thing, just turn up the gain in ur editing software after you record the audio another thing is try to get in the habit of recording from your main stereo outs that way you wont have to do any processing like that and your levels will be good to go

    the producer is not usually responsible for sample clearance, whatever artist's you're working with their label is supposed to handle that if they are gonna be releasing it but thats only if you're the producer
