    Is compression mandatory?

agreed, but again i kind of feel like your establishing your point with easy examples. obviously yeah if you're using compression as a crutch for bad drums then thats just a bad idea, but i never said anything about using bad drums in my post...and the op was talking about using good ones as...

    Please Help Illmuzik Fam!

i have the 4k and highly recommend it. if you want to do all that you can't beat the 4k's depth of features, sequencer, and sound quality. bear in mind the 4k is the only 24 bit mpc and somewhere down the line you'll realize that does make a nice difference in headroom and sound quality.and...

    Is compression mandatory?

true but ash you're using the extreme example that the industry unfortunately sets today. that level of compression and limiting is never good but is some necessary? imo absolutely. compression isn't just useful for when you have a very dynamic live drumming type of performance. when used...

    Needlz Equipment?!

if you want a good analog synth go and get a moog voyager or alesis andromeda, regardless of what needlz uses (although i'm willing to bet he has at least one of those)

Check out just blaze in the latest issues of remix

exactly...for real i don't know why every discussion about gear comes back to 10 people all saying its the person not the gear. i agree! but i think all of us know that at this point. every time i see gear discussed on here, mpc forums, or really anywhere, the thread ends in a group of people...

Check out just blaze in the latest issues of remix

i have heard so many producers talking about this whole mpc thing. first just blaze made beats in 15 minutes and everyone had to do it. now he 'ditches' the mpc and everyone has to do it lol. lemme put it this way...i feel sorry for amateurs who ditch their mpcs because just does. all...

    sampling yourself

the best way to do that would be to run it through some old, grimey drum machines and analog gear, vsts as they are digital are the last things that can do that well. there are some out there that claim they can but i haven't had good results.

    sampling yourself

dont just resample your melodic instruments. if you aren't resampling your drums pretty constantly you're hustling backwards imo.

    Musicians Institute-Keyboard Program

i think you'll find the results better in the long run...you could also hire a private instructor for a few months to get you a good grounding in the fundamentals and go from there, i know some people do that also. a lot of producers, myself included, say oh damn i wanna learn the keys like...

    Musicians Institute-Keyboard Program

a lot of the best players learn on their own man, these people are selling you a dream in a diploma kind of thing...all you need is a real solid book and practice, for real. if you're paying for anything, it should be private lessons.

    First monitors

def go with the krk's, there's a reason you'll see them in almost any pro studio in the world...they are fantastic monitors. if you do buy (new) online, follow dreampolice's link and order from sweetwater. the customer service/support and pricing there is the best around.

    The weakest link...

mbox 2 pro...apogee is apparently pretty famous in pro audio for their a/d converters and interfaces, and I see why after buying this thing. I don't want people to misinterpret the original post btw...i'm not saying you can't make great music with an mbox or something like that. the fireface...

    The weakest link...

I'm sure a lot of people on here have already realized this but its something that only really hit me in the last day or so after getting some new gear and I wanted to offer some advice... As producers, a lot of us are always focused on the next BIG piece of gear...that triton, motif...

Converting From Fl Studio To Hardware

northjack you might want to consider buying a used 4k, as i did, cause you can get that for the same price on ebay. mpc's don't suffer from being used before so i don't see much of a point in buying a 2.5k over 4k considering the differences in features.
