    make sure the hard drive is 7200 rpm and quality (it really sucks if your laptop harddrive dies) 512 should be enough ram and that emu soundcard should give you enough options power for most hip hop recording situations. external hard drive is a good idea also man........ check ebay...

    k to 'record' you'll need to freeze or bounce so if you arm the parameters you want to record your changes in real time for and the record automation then freeze i think you will be able to do what you're trying to do..... there are also plugins that go in the fx bins that record everything...

    man 192khz is something very few people ever use (some dvd audio would be done at 192khz that's about it) i still run at 24bit 44.1 (sometimes 88.2 when tracking and then dither to 44.1 for mixing as my computer can't handle the strain) the thing about higher bit rates is on cheaper cards...
