speaking about countries such as mexico this might be some sort of a valid point. but i do not believe armed citicens could overthrow a military regime with handguns. if they realy were willing to put there life at risk, they'd get the weapons they need. if you have money and a will, there is a market for everything.
castro and his companions did not overthrow the cuban government with guns they got from the supermarket.
but in modern western societies such as yours, mine, the american, there is no need for. weapons pose a bigger thread to us, than they do good. as relic tells, somebody shot every day in his city, thats crazy. i dont want my relatives or friends to be exposed to that risk.

there is only 2 parties benefiting from that. people who, for no reason, feel stronger with a weapon and the lobby that makes money from that fear, feeding them constantly with pro-weapon arguments...."freedom", imo thats just laughable.
everybody else looses.

edit:sorry, thought youre from the uk

I had a good friend movie to America from Mexico. He was telling me horrible things the Mexican government did to its own people. I asked him why don't the people rise up against the corrupt government he answered simply "Because we don't have the right to bear arms" "We cant get enough guns in the country"

Bullshit! They have drug cartels everywhere runnin the cops, there are plenty of guns in mexico..Legal guns? Thats another question.
Brazil has more guns prolly than we do! And all assualt weapons!

"guns don't kill people, people kill people" - DMX

Guns aren't made for killing people, they just do... but so do cars, planes, motorcycles, boats, and a million other things that we take for granted. The story about the kid was very sad and disheartening. I can't even imagine how the father really feels about the accident.

But to say that we shouldn't even have guns is just as crazy as giving a gun to a pissed off postal worker. I enjoy going to the range and shooting up targets. I enjoy knowing that I have the ability to protect myself and my family whenever we may need it.

As long as there are guns on this planet, they will be availiable for any crook, thief, rapist, robber or whoever to get their hands on one. I want to be able to protect myself if he finds his way to me or my family. Y'all know the saying...."never bring a knife to a gunfight".

One Love,

The drug cartel is a bit different than the average citizen living on beans and rice.

Ahhh but when you get tired of beans and rice then what? You join the cartel!

Unfortunately Dac your right, the bad guys ALWAYS have the guns. I brought a knife to a gunfight once..And won!
I had to lie in wait until they crept past me then I popped up and slit his throat!!! Or was that Rambo that did that?

Well maybe if you read the entire sentence, you wouldn't be *dumb*. Then again maybe it wouldn't matter either way?!?!?!?

i did man. cars are made for driving around, planes are built to fly from a to b (weve seen they were used to kill people too, but so were spoons, chainsaws, axes, cords, plastic bags, chemicals, candleholders, hedge trimmers, stones etc., but is not their purpose).

the idea of guns tho is to shoot holes through living objects to make them not living, which includes killing people.

OK, I really had to do some soul searching on this whole gun issue...when I purchased my first 2 handguns, I had to ask myself why am I doing this? Most people would blame the purchase of a handgun on reasons of "protection". Some buy them to boost their egos, manhood or whatever. I personally bought mine for target shooting (as a sport).

Would I use a gun for protection? Yes! - Would I kill someone to save my life or a family members life? Yes! Would I use it to harm anyone otherwise? No! So depending on why someone purchases a gun will have a great effect on what its used for. I only use mine to shoot targets at the range and those of you who know about handguns know that you use balls for practice and playing, those who use guns for protection or even the wrong reasons like harming others use hollowpoints or some other configuration that are more suited to kill whatever it hits.

To say that the idea of guns is to kill is not 100% true. Statistically, there are more people with guns that have never killed than those with guns that have. With that said mono, I honestly do understand your feelings about guns, I just dont feel that having a gun makes you a killer.

Doesn't make you one no.. BUT guns were designed for and their whole purpose is to kill.
Now you dont HAVE to go around killing with them, and target shooting is an awsome way to release stress (But its expensive) however target shooting is designed to make you a better shot in order to kill more effciently.

dac it wasnt my point to make you feel bad about your hobby or to say that having a gun makes you a killer. it doesnt. but you showing the need for defending it proves that you nonetheless feel some sort of a moral conflict. its cool dude, im not pointing at you, i have my idiocies too, everybody does.
but look;
people do martial arts f.e., which can be a dangerous weapon too (and it is legally treated as such). but it takes time and study to master and it provides people with a physical self confidence, which makes misusing that power for ego reasons needless/unlikely(in most cases).
fire arms are different, all you need to use them is a functioning trigger finger, while you can cause disproportionately more harm with them.
people are people and a trigger is pulled quickly in a shit hits the fan situation.
now guns are forbidden in most of europe, so it is more likely you get hit with a fist or stabbed with a knife in such a situation. with both however it takes considerable effort to cause life-threatening harm and it can not be justified by "heat of the passion" when you kill someone with your bare hands or 6 knife stabs.

someone calls you a son of a bitch. youre both drunk as fuck. you hit him on the nose. his nose is broken. his girl runs around like a headless chicken. funny story.

someone calls you a son of a bitch. youre both drunk as fuck. you pull out your gun, baam, hes dead. not so funny.

so all i am saying is, guns should not be available to the public, since we are not reasonable creatures all of the time, while a gun is a deadly weapon almost all of the time.
you should be allowed to use your gun for sports. but it should then be bailed at the shooting range.

To say that the idea of guns is to kill is not 100% true. Statistically, there are more people with guns that have never killed than those with guns that have.

id rather like to see a statistic with less weapons and less dead people overall. maybe we'd have some more b.i.g., 2pac and big L albums then 2. not to speak of all those who died anonymously and whose families didnt have any sort of moral compensation. imo, if one could turn back time, it should be worth a try.

now somebody please say amen, but i had to speak that mind

Are you implying that drug cartels are run by hispanics who eat rice and beans??

LOL^^

If the right to bear arms was taken away, the only ones WITH guns are the people who purchase them illegally. I don't know about you, but I'm not cool with the criminals who have guns knowing that I can't own one and decide to get a little bold and try to break into my home. You can't have these guns readily available on the black market and have your law-abiding citizens denied the ability to defend themselves and/or their families from those criminals...

Take away the right to bear arms....and the home invasion-type crimes WILL go up.....IMO....

I don't know how people compare Europe (a continent of many nations, governments) to the US (one big ass nation). It's a little easier governing a nation the size of NY, than governing a nation 50 times larger.. I don't know about you, but I think governing a nation of 300 million people is a little more difficult than governing a nation of a few million.

There are millions of people with guns who own weapons with no intention of harming anyone. Why take away their rights because of a small percentage?

ESPECIALLY since this whole 9/11 thing, people are buying guns for a sense of security.

I agree that those who do own guns should go through extensive training to be a little more responsible and learn to use discretion in extreme circumstances...

They've already taken away our privacy (Patriot Act). Don't let the government take away a right given to us by those who've created this country.
