enfinite, u gotta be careful about talking about drugs on this website cuz u'll get alotta shit. The majority of people on illmuzik are drugfree. Not me though, theres not much i like more than burnin to enhance my day. I create alotta shit while i'm lifted.. i LOVE listenin and makin music high its an awesome experience. i have to admit what i consider my illest shit, I made it when i was sober though. Weed doesn't make u better it makes u think its better, hey nuthins wrong with that though. The shit i make when i'm high is a little different than the shit i make when i'm sober.. i usualy jus have alot more fun fuckin with shit while i'm high and that expands my attention spand so therefore i probly put more work into my shit so thats probly why i think that shits dope.. I love making kinda bizaree shit too and the weed could b helpin me with that.. it feels like it is but its probly all physcological.. anyways i'm jus ramblin i'm done now thanks

i cant do nothing if i smoked but listen to music, it does make the music "seem" better when u high though..thats prolly why everyone smoked weed in the 70s and just went to concerts or sat around and listened to music...but i does make music better from a listening standpoint for me, not a creative one though...i dont wanna think stuff through when im high..i just want slow head and a turkey sandwich

I havent smoked for nearly a year now due to a ongoing job search that would never end until just about now...But in tha past, i was just like yall - where i would get lifted on watch tha lights glo as well. I did find that i would be in a different mind set, which was tha one thing i could defenitly dig since it gave me a different perspective...But if i got too smoked out it was basically bad news cuz i would jus stare at tha screen for ever not accomplish anything.LOL....But if i have anything positive to add about using both elements at tha same time(Beats/Smoke) - It would have to be that for me anywayz...i would def. zone and get some outstanding shit that amazed tha shit out of me when i was sober again...Good times, Good times.

Drugs are bad(cough cough) for you!!!

They kill your brain cells,

What was the question again?

But seriously, I'm on a smoking break to see how it effects my production caused I noticed a lot of the top dawgs in the game don't smoke. So they say.Manny, Jazze Pha,Tim, Neptune, even Mr. Chronic. Dre don' t smoke.

I'm three days in, I really think It will allow me to get more done. But I know Ima miss a sample or two. OR a sound I might hear when I'm up there.

I usually just smoke and listening and run sounds and sample thru my sampler then When I'm level I make the song , with a clear focus head.

Word of advice: Don't mix drunk or stoned. For the creative process, though, well, it's up to you. :)

good advice god,try mixing drunk AND stoned,it's even worse.as for me i like to wake up at like 7 am smoke make something raw go back to sleep and then when i finally get up i go back to that peice and edit it,and get it right then i put it on a cd and listen to it on my headphones when i ride the bus, train, whatever, and listen for stuff to change,so sometimes i'm high and sometimes not,but i'm high right now so let me stop rambling

Hey,

I don't drink or smoke weed, and I absolutely HATE working with people who are drunk or stoned. The don't follow instructions, their sense of what's good is completely warped, and it takes them forever to react to anything.

If people come over to my studio stoned or drunk, I send them away and wait until they've sobered up.

Dam V!...LOL...I can relate though - i see where your going with this.
It sounds like your trying to work on a more professional level where your spending your hard earned money and time, and i can respect that.
If i was puting in real recording time and seriuos about it due to tha circumstances - then i would be exactly tha same way...I would expect who ever it is coming into tha studio with me to be giving 100% and fully capable of following orders etc.
For me - i havent ever had tha dough to take it to that level yet and so when i think about smokin/drinkin when im throwin somethin down or collaberating with my friends...Its more of relaxed evironment where were just making good music and having fun...But if it was tha other way around...then i def. see your point.

Drugs are an escape from reality they will not help anyone cope with anything hard to deal with weed will not make a producer any more creative than he already is..This seems to be an argument that neither side will win so all I can say is if you have a brain and can think for yourself you don't need any type of narcotic to enhance that because if you do NEED it , it just shows that you were never in control of your own mind to begin with.....And for nyone who says it's just weed and it comes from the earth well cocaine and heroin come from the earth as well...Think about it....You do what you want but drugs gets you nowhere wether usng it or selling I've seen it too many times with my own eyes

i disagree inrctyhoodmusic.

drugs are not only an escape from reality. ever since ancient times, man has used drugs to reach a higher state of consciousness. If a drug experiance exposes the user to a new perspective/consciousness, it is likely he can recreate this state without the use of drugs next time. if however they cannot do this and rely on drugs to give them an altered perception, then yes, it is somewhat of an escae.

I know what you're saying but I must say that to reach a new cnsciousness is a lame excuse..I have read about ancient Indians in south america eating the coca leaf which is used to make cocaine and I also read on how the became so dependent on them that they were fucking things up with in their tribe

Hey,

Man, it's no joke that drunk people are a pain in the ass. Most of the people we've worked with doing hip hop are, well, not the best off financially, and often we have to drive 30 miles across town to pick them up to bring them over to the house. One time a dude was so drunk he could barely speak, so we waited for him to sober up there. Then, when we got him into the studio, he was so off pitch, he wouldn't stop when I needed him to, he couldn't read the lyrics, and when it was someone else's turn to get behind the mic, he curled up in the corner and fell asleep SNORING! We couldn't wake his drunk ass up to move out of the studio...eventually I just had enough and told everyone to piss off.

You cannot imagine how pissed off we were, we had wasted literally HOURS in driving, waiting, a recording session that produced absolutely nothing that we could use, and being 'held hostage' by this guy who kept saying how sorry he was and how it wouldn't happen again.
Plus all the gas and the food they ate from my fridge...

The next week he came with his girlfriend, who was missing a tooth and had a black eye....hmmmm....

Let me guess Nick, the ending to that story was that you got a new girlfriend...;)

Hey,

New girlfriend? Hell no! That girl, while she was really nice, looked like she had sucked on too many glass pipes in the past and had a skewed view on life. The fact that she was shacking up with this abusive boyfriend was a sign that something was wrong.

No, the ending of the story was that guy threatening to kill my partner because we weren't going to pay him what he THOUGHT we were going to pay him (he didn't understand the contract), so I gave him some money, stopped the recordings, and wished him good luck.

He then got arrested for something like domestic abuse.

Nick , that story is too funny man. I saw a " bootleg record label owner" smack the taste out one his artist mouth for saying a little slick line in his rap about how the label don;t pay him shit. And he was sober. The lil session was over after that. How could get back on the mic and talk tough after that. We refered to him as Mc Smacky for a week and couldn't stop laughing about it. We call the label Smack em up Records.
