um...... yeah, its personal. when i "make it" i will not be like them. there is much more to what we do than "just music"..... the problem is, enough people dont take it personally. personally, i'm not out just to make it; i need to be concious of the things that i say and do because people are watching what you do, and there is always someone out there who patterns themselves after you. i'm sure cats like benzino even got groupies like that. i dont have plans on glorifying the things that have kept me and my family down; i plan on breathing and speaking life into this. i'm not some vegan freak who's out to save the world..... but damn someone's got to be a man and step it up... aint it funny? these guys want all the power, money, and recognition of stardom, but very few ever want the responsibility that it comes with. say what you want about parents raising their kids- anyone who is in a spotlight is a defacto role model, like it or not. if you are making millions doing what you love, how much does it really take to have a little more integrity? this is personal because there is much that can be done to change the things that are wrong with this place. me and you went on and on about the war, and my point still stands: these guys all live in america, they talk about all the government plots and conspiracies against minorities, how "the man" is trying to keep them down..... and here you are, glorifying those same things, only aginst your people yourself. so, oliver north and regan may have played a major role in the crack epidemic. for all arguments sake, letes say that bush himself is the supplyer. who is the one on the corner, slangin away? and who is the one rhymin about how hard he is, how he IS, not WAS, a hustler? who kills more black men than anyone else in this country? who kills more hispanics? the government doesnt need to do much anymore. people in hip hop do a pretty good job of keeping themselves down.

*just a note- none of these hostilities are directed towards you guys.

There is no issue of Reagan , Bush and North "MAY" have played a role it is the truth and a known fact that they are the reason and for you to say Hip Hop is killing and keeping it's self down is just plain ole bullshit if a person can't listen to music and use their own brain then they don't need to listen to music...Hip Hop cannot be blaimed for them problems in urban areas in america
No OFFENSE but white boys listen to the same hip hop we do what goes on in their neighborhoods not the same thing that goes on in ours......Wether you're in the public eye or not doesn't make you a role model .......What happens when these violent moveis are out in theaters when something happens related to the movie it doesn't get as much flack as hip hop.....Hip Hop is not the reason things are the way they are it's entertainment just like movies.........Did you hear about the MATRIX killings ..... A week after the movie was released there were about 5 or 6 killings around the country by people who belived the movie but there was a small artical in the New York Daily News about it...But when some kids shoot up a night club and a song from 50 cent happens to be playing that becomes a big deal it's not half as big as what happend due to a movie and that song is not the reason the club got shot up but america is not pointing the finger at the actors or the directors but the point them at the artist that makes music it's a bunch of bullshit...If people can't use their own brain to think for themselvs then they should not be listening to the music or watching the movies ...People know wrong from right and using rap as a scape goat is just stupid

And for you to even bring up The regan bush and north thing in the wrong thread shows that your hostilities were directed at someone.....You should have replied to that in it s proper thread

nah i was serious. this is a good topic to discuss. it challenges people to look at different perspectives. i am talking about the poeple in hip hop contributing to these problems. the word "may" wasnt in the context of "if", but a context of fact. "there may be a new nba champion, but the lakers are still champions in the eyes of many"- that is a different type of statement. does that make sense? what i'm saying is, ok, they may have started this, but are these cats in the streets doing anything to change it? nah i didnt here about the matrix killings. yes, the media does pick and choos the things that they report on. bad news equals news. bad news regarding succesful minorities is great news. its all sensationalism. ALL im sayin is that hip hop could a lot better for itself by NOT giving them the firepower by acting the fool when they become succesful. yes, it is entertainment, and yes all these forms have an impact on society- but i am concerned with the realms where i spend the majority of my time, and thats hip hop. sooooooooo....................... that said, no, i dont have a problem with you. i respect all that you have said and rather enjoy the debates. i gain a good counter perspective by it. i hope you gain the same. hey, im not here to start fights or arguments........... thats why i like this place because we can all give and recieve different perspectives without acting like idiots and hating each other for it. ever been on the mc sights? its not like this. nah, "im all about the love man!!!" yeah thats corny but who cares- it was half sarcastic. -one.

damn crack babies

I like how crack got into the thread, that's pretty funny but anyhow I am looking out my window at a crackhead now....but look I think that Hip Hop will change and all of those ol school heads that defined wrote the script on how it supposed to sound, sure it will evolve but it truly won't be the music that started it all and the look and the graffiti and everything else.....but you can't stay stuck but I will tell you this, the fifth of beethoven and whats considered truly classic will never change, this still applies to any real hip hop head whether they loved tribe, Pete Rock, or BDP.......the patterns will probably stay essentially the same and the sounds that make it sound hip hop will too (vinyl).....in my opinion, many of the underground producers today are still emulating Diamond D and premiere techniques because it usually presents the proper backdrop that a true hip hop spitting MC brings and wants to spit to.....and after all the thing is that feel and bounce that it should bring to any pair of worthy subwoofers, I respect all of the producers now, they still dig crates and listen to old school to create new things, and I wonder what we will say in 20 years and when our kids are bobbing their heads shidd the thing is vinyl will eventually become so scarce you will have to pay a lot for a record or rewax maybe 100$ does anyone know someone who has a collection of vinyl on cd................ is that hip hop?:D

man.... listen, as far as the underground goes.... how long has it been since there was actually talent on the scene? now everyone thinks that similies and metaphors are all there is to spit about. wordplay is cool, but great artists have a deeper substance to them.... pete rock is a horrible mc but a great producer of his era, chino xl sucks and is really only good for the wake up show.... canibus, well, if anyone heard the album before mic club, that is self explanitory- it is the worst album i have ever heard- EVER. and what has crooked i done thats of any significance? nothing.

there is more to hip hop than what the underground tries to confine it too. yes, its b-boys and dj's and emcees and producers.... but raffiti was adopted into hip hop; it is a stand alone artform. i know many artists in southern cali who listen almost exclusevly to hard rock. there is no "True Form" to hip hop. even if we cant stand certain pieces of it, we cant say that it is or isnt based on our biased taste buds. the reasn why there is no "true form" is because it changes and evolves and yes, shines in some places and fails miserably in others, but we cannot place things in these boxes, especially when the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts.....

damn, that was harsh, hood!! crooked i didnt deserve that! this guy is garbage and for some reason he still has a small legion of followers... another west coast kid who just signed with the row. he is a bit more lyrical then some other kids out here, but not by much.

i got "rhyme and reason". that in and of itself is not what hip hop is; that was what hip hop WAS, at that place in time. the majorty of the artists on there were only large at the time or just beginning to be a force.(craig mack, tribe... redman was on the rise, busta was barely out of leaders...p diddy was an upstart, etc.) and if they were to do that movie today, it would be much different in every way you can imagine. meth and wu were still street and ghetto on that movie. i guarantee you meth wouldnt be droppin a freestyle on the corner on todays version. he'd be showin off his crib.....

the point here is that hip hop has changed and while i may not like it i cant keep acting like hip hop is only what it was at a certain time.

oh yeah... to marvel... big daddy kane and g rap were the forefathers of todays style. how do they relate in that equation of yours?

wut i think hip hop is

hey wut up peps
i think hip hop is when an mc writes a rhyme
to a track thats jus banging , a sample or an original but
it has to make your head nodd.
when it first comes on it gotcha the beat then the lyrics
thas hip hop dont 4 get the real cuts not that sampled cut from the keyboad

actually it was in a park spinning breaks... the b-boy art actually developed from that. they were called "break boys" or "break girls" because they danced to the breaks.

thats really my favorite environment right there...... if that was all it still was, i would be perfectly happy, but seriously, these kids act like that is all there is to hip hop. i was at this little show at the skaiting rink last night and the cats who threw it originaly set up a b-boy battle, but the show didnt exactly have a great turnout.... but there were some decent breakers that i knew there (all power but no style.... what a shame!!) and they went and turned it into a b-boy vs. c-walk battle.... which you really cant do. THAT made no sense to me at all. made me want to start beaking again all the same though....
