I have lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of sounds now, which is good!:i:

BUT some of those sounds have long ass names ie
"bigbeatbass_005"
"bigbeatbass_006"
"bigbeatbass_007"
"bigbeatbass_008"
"bigbeatbass_009"

Which of course when its on my flash card looks like
"bigbeatbas"
"bigbeatbas"
"bigbeatbas"
"bigbeatbas"
"bigbeatbas"
And of course this means that all the way down the list I will only hear the first one:h:

This would'nt be so bad to go in and edit on the pc if the lists werent so long..:g:
We are talking hundreds upon hundreds I have to do like this!:f:

Meanwhile Im missing out on using the sounds.
nothing like a 58 minute transfer of data only to find out half of it is unusable.:p:

Any suggestions?

Yep...I hate hate that shit too. Unfortunately the MPC 1K can only handle a certain amount of characters. I wonder if the JJ OS fixes this? Luckily for me I realized this before I did a huge transfer like that. My only suggestion would be to relabel them. Try deleting part of the label like Bbase01 etc... Then import a couple first too see if it works.

on a related note the f3 f4 f5 and f6 buttons stopped working on my 4000 yesterday. I hadnt used my mp in like a month + before that. just turend it on and those buttons didnt work at all.. vey strange. hmm. i really dont feel like paying forat or rogue an arm and a leg to take my shit apart.

Did you try and reinstall the OS?

yeah i tried that .. still doesnt work .. do u think that erasing the hard drive then reinstalling the os would work? beacuse my akysys cant take files from the hard drive only the RAM for some reason. I wonder if those problems are related somehow. Maybe . Ill try that when i get home tonight

Homie.....I learned a long time ago to "NEVER" turn my Mpc off! Outside of a power outage my shit stays on just like my pc. For some reason certain electronics work better if the stay on all the time. I own a mpc2k and turning my shit on and off back in the day would slowly fuck up my screen. (bad pixels) and sticky buttons always result from power my shit off each day.

I can tell you that if you leave a 2500 on you wil screw it up because you start getting all sorts of funky OS problems.

no way, thats horrible, thats the worst thing you can do to a piece of equiment, your killing the screen time, burning up fuse time as well as various other things.. definatly turn your mpc off man

I'm just speaking on what has worked for me! I've had my mpc since 95-96 and the only time my screen has went stupid on me is when I turned it off and turned it back on a few days to a few weeks later. I guess it's just been my experience that leaving my equipment on works best. The only thing I turn off in my studio is my Amp because "from experience" I've burn of few of those up leaving them on. I also have all my equipment connected to the outlet thru a surge protector....like I said..it's just been my experience.

To Rel:
- just open the folders with your sounds in windows. Select all, reanme the first one "fuk" and the rest of them will automatically rename "fuk (1)", etc...then you can load them up

To Ash:
- those function buttons are known for not responding. Do you have to press really hard to make them work? That's happened to me on a lot of gear (MPC/Juno 106/SP1200 numeric keys/etc). If that's the case, take the MPC apart, take the plastic button off, and spray a tiny bit of contact cleaner on the switch. Press the button twenty or thirty times with a qtip to work it in there, and it should be fine. I got experience with fixing my own shit, so if you want me to roll through at some point to help out, hit me.

i used to leave my shit on all the time ... including my computer ... i only started to turn it off cuz my girl started to bug me about wasting electricity and shit.. truth be told since ive been turning my equipment OFF daily ive had a hard drive crash, a buggy line out main out on one of my keyboards, and my mp has a weird acting hard drive and also has a buggy line out lol.... coincidence? .. i dunno lol
