That's what I'm talking about! We didn't even turn the quater of a million dollar SSL board off when I was in school (Atlanta Art Institute). The ONLY thing we turned off were the Amps to the monitors. That power surge when u turn your shit on is waaaay more deadly than if you leave it on and keep shit constant. Just make sure you have a EVERYTHING routed thru a surge protector. My Pro Mix01 Yamaha mixer has never had one problem and it's on 24/7 365. I've had to replace my mpc screen 3 times and like I mentioned earlier the pixels only went stupid on me AFTER I turned it back on after power it down over night.
There's definitely something to it! I don't even let my PC go into sleep mode. The change in season does more to increase your electric bill, not your gear. Your gear doesn't draw on the much power!
let me just say this....turn on limited lights in June and don't use your AC....I guarantee your bill will be the same or higher? I went to Florida a few years ago for the whole entire month of July and I turned off the power to my house at the circuit breaker!!!! Shit was still summertime high! Called the electric company and the said that they prorate your bill according to the season. The only time you really get a break on your gas and light bill is in the early spring when you don't use heat or AC as much! yeah..it's fucked up but it's true!

They prorate it but once they come out for those once and a gr8 while meter readings they even things out ... if they was to high u would have a lower bill or to low then ur next bill will be sky high

...its like a bulb, the more often you switch it on and off the lesser it's life is. In regards to display, its replacable but you're also wearing out parts on the MB...i dont think its neccesary to explain.

i also heard that with equal maintainance, a well maintaned car driven consistently fast for longer periods of time will last much longer than a slow driven, less consisntently driven "city" vehicle. I wonder if the same prinicipal applies.
Guess that's a "2500" problem. I don't know much about the 2500 but if it has a internal floppy drive STOP USING IT! The floppy drive is the worse thing in any MPC imo. Boot from an extenal zip drive that you can leave on 24/7. I have my trusty 2k with a zip drive and I've never ever ever never had a problem with the OS.
Makes plenty sense! Don't crank your car for a year and when you do I guarantee you'll have engine problems. Sensor lights on that you've never seen before, fluid leaks from no where and less horse power.....possibly some nasty exhaust smoke as well. Moving parts are made to do just that...MOVE!
That basically applies to anything really even the human body. Get sick for an extend period, be bed ridden and you may have to learn to walk again! Body parts that you don't use will begin to break down muscularly. No muscle...NO move!

It oest like being on for looooooong amounts of time though, could just be my unit but there are some others that start locking up on you and buttons act funny if its on for what ever random hour constitutes too long. But I havent had that prob for a while now.

...besides, every mpc released after the 2k boots from rom, os flashed to prom, no booting from disks no more.
laws of physics, every moving object is subjected to wearing out, if you stress any object it will suffer damage or some sort of friction and loses integrity, then functionality.
I once made a strobe from a cardboard flashbulb, them thrown away camera's..didnt think it would be that strong but what hell lol damn, dont think youll come across any camera that could flash as bright like that thing did....only once in its life..instantly vaporized its wire and melted the plastic connectors at the elco's like cheese.

So relic u think i should go with the flash drive instead? I'm getting my mpc 2000xl customized and I def want to put a diffrent drive in it. Someone said to me that the zip was better, but I read a few articles and alot of heads who use the mpc 2000xl say its better with the flash drive.
