the future of hiphop production is:
1. sample based or 2. composed ?
1. sample based or 2. composed ?

Sampling aint going nowhere, its an art within itself that takes alot of time to master
composition aint going nowhere either,
whats going to happen is a new generation of producers are going to pop up who are well versed in both and wont limit themselves to either style

Everyone doesn't have an ear for sampling. Alot of cats aren't creative enough to make a hot track utilizing a sample because using a hot sample doesn't guarantee that the track will come out hot. There's still plenty of work to do in order to polish it up and take it to another dimension. Because your music is composed doesn't neccessarily mean that you put more work into it then the next man. I've heard plenty of "composed" material in the past year here on IllMuzik that entirely sucked a stank ass. Personally, I don't make tracks that are exclusive to samples and beats any longer. It's either 100% composed (which makes up about 20% of my music), or it is a combination (30%) samples - (70%) composition. I prefer to compose around samples and interpolate, mainly because I find it alot more challenging. It typically takes me twenty minutes to create an original "composed" track and anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours to create a song employing the use of both.
Question: Pick a track that you put the most time & work into and put that up against Just Blaze's "Breathe" track and tell me who put in more work?
