All I have money for is Fruityloops and it works good for me I think of a beat and i can still make it with fruityloops so it's straight for me the beats aren't the hard part its having talent to rock the beats. But don't get me wrong I will be investing in hardware eventually but I could still pimp a track using Fruityloops.

Sure itz a damn start, for the beginning... but you can't fuck me tellin me that you gon be a platinum hip-hop producer usin fruity loops, I gon shit you in da face. It's a damn dismiss for those who buy real gear to be a hot producer.

Is dj paul or juicy j, dre or timbaland usin fruity loops? nah but that faggot ( age 14 ) next door to you bought fruity loops to be a producer. Remember that you're disrespecting those people who want to real professional producers. WORD

Who cares what gear you have I have a MPC2000XL, AkaiS3000, Emu Mo phatt, midi controller and Triton. And? So what i wont sit here and diss cats because of the equiptment they use. Guess what i'm switching to Reason Wooooo. The problem is people think the gear is what makes a dope producer. You know how many wack people out there have 100,000 Dollar hardware labs? a GRIP. Yall swear if you buy a MPC its gonna make you Primo lol.
If beat making software was around when primo, pete rock, timbaland etc all them started you think they wouldnt use it? Yeah mothafuckin right. Hardware is becomming obsolete every major studio uses some form of software, pro tools, cool edit something. Yup Kanye West Chops samples in cool edit. He sucks he uses the computer. Oh yeah tell me one thing that a hardware sampler does that fruity loops cant? I'm dying to know.

LOL you use a fuckin MC303?? OMG what do you think this is the early 90's? Its 2003 man. If you're still using that piece of garbage for your drums you shouldnt be talkin shit dood. Even free software sounds better and has more features than a MC303. Yamaha CS1x???! Dont make me laugh please. Tritons are decent. Not too original tho.

I thought with all the shit you were talking about FL you'd have atleast some decent stuff. You think you're going pro with that? Yeah its hardware but you're gonna need a room full of hardware to go "pro" slugger. Have fun collecting all that old school gear. You should go all the way and mix down to a 4 track. Trade in your car for a horse and carriage while you're at it too. And your house for a mud hut. :D

Hardware is here to stay and so is software. They are both dope. It's just dope making music with whatever you got. It just sucks that whack kids are making shit with programs they downloaded and call themselves producers. There are mad kids on my block who do that, so I'm savin up for an MPC 60 to set me apart you know? It seems like if you say you make hip hop on software, you get no respect cuz lots of the shit out there is whack.

I've been making beats with sofware since I was 14 (I started with Impulse Tracker for DOS) but now I'm getting paid for beats and investing in hardware. I found making beats on a PC was getting boring. An MPC is an instrument. I'm also a DJ and using a PC for shows is kinda lame that's why you need some hardware. Also, if you're serious about makin beats, you should definitely know your way around an MPC.

this thread is getting ridiculous. as it´s already been said: the result is what counts.

Do your profs at school grade your assignments based on the software you used? "Ah, that looks like MS Word - he´s gotta be good since its expensive. Oh, let me see what we got here ... Ah damn, this dude used a free software program - it is obvious his paper sucks."

My neighbour has done video editing for many years - guess what? He´s using a computer now and is not using those videocutting consoles he used 10 years ago. I guess he most suck bad time since you can get software like that on the web.
And another friend of mine is doing graphics in Photoshop. What a coward - Picasso didn´t use computers and made dope stuff.

I see people in this forum who act like they´re working for akai, emu or whatever. Is there some new MPC religion I don´t know of?

When you hear a beat, dou you first do some research on the equipment the producer uses before you judge? If I feel that beat I feel it. No matter if it was done on a mpc, sp1200, asr10, fruityloops, cubase, logic, sonar or whatever.

I consider myself a musician and for me it counts what the music is like. But some seem to be technicians. Why do people spend so much time listing all the components their rack holds instead of posting beats, asking producing related questions, giving feedback, asking questions concerning the stuff they use (i don´t actually care what you use) etc. ?

People seem to buy expensive hardware in order to prove how serious they are.
@BOSS AUTHORITY: You think buying an MPC60 will make you sound different from the other kids who got fruity? Haha, i think you could save that money for something else.
Once again: It´s YOU who influences the sound!
I can see why people are pissed off by people who read a music magazine and download all the software mentioned in there without knowing what it can do. I´m talking ´bout people who use 10 different synthesizers, effects, samplers etc. just because they got more presets to choose from. But why would you want to let those people bother you? Good stuff will always stay and bad stuff won´t. It takes hard work and it´s YOU who has to do that job. Soft- or hardware can only help you, but it´s still you doing the music. Think about it and stop categorizing producers and productions by the stuff used for it.
peace!

thats a good post @Haz some damn good points. there are many who listen to many on the things they should have. a guy told me yesterday that if i didnt get a motif then i wouldnt make good shit but this is the same cat that wanted me to sell him six beats.lol. people. i like the mpc series but for the money of a 4000 i can build a comp that do more and wit my creativity i can do so much more. at first i thought that a comp was cheating, but look in all of your gear its all comp shit what isnt these days what will make us stand out from the rest is "drum roll please" US no one else if you want to be hot work at it. simple point anyone seen stomp the broadway show them cats make beats on trashcans empty buckets tap shoes. lets fuck the equipment and grab the creative side.

ONE!
