this thread is getting ridiculous. as it´s already been said: the result is what counts.
Do your profs at school grade your assignments based on the software you used? "Ah, that looks like MS Word - he´s gotta be good since its expensive. Oh, let me see what we got here ... Ah damn, this dude used a free software program - it is obvious his paper sucks."
My neighbour has done video editing for many years - guess what? He´s using a computer now and is not using those videocutting consoles he used 10 years ago. I guess he most suck bad time since you can get software like that on the web.
And another friend of mine is doing graphics in Photoshop. What a coward - Picasso didn´t use computers and made dope stuff.
I see people in this forum who act like they´re working for akai, emu or whatever. Is there some new MPC religion I don´t know of?
When you hear a beat, dou you first do some research on the equipment the producer uses before you judge? If I feel that beat I feel it. No matter if it was done on a mpc, sp1200, asr10, fruityloops, cubase, logic, sonar or whatever.
I consider myself a musician and for me it counts what the music is like. But some seem to be technicians. Why do people spend so much time listing all the components their rack holds instead of posting beats, asking producing related questions, giving feedback, asking questions concerning the stuff they use (i don´t actually care what you use) etc. ?
People seem to buy expensive hardware in order to prove how serious they are.
@BOSS AUTHORITY: You think buying an MPC60 will make you sound different from the other kids who got fruity? Haha, i think you could save that money for something else.
Once again: It´s YOU who influences the sound!
I can see why people are pissed off by people who read a music magazine and download all the software mentioned in there without knowing what it can do. I´m talking ´bout people who use 10 different synthesizers, effects, samplers etc. just because they got more presets to choose from. But why would you want to let those people bother you? Good stuff will always stay and bad stuff won´t. It takes hard work and it´s YOU who has to do that job. Soft- or hardware can only help you, but it´s still you doing the music. Think about it and stop categorizing producers and productions by the stuff used for it.
peace!
