sYgMa, Bruce Lee's style was ment to be formless, to adapt to forms as water would. Not only was Bruce Lee Fast, he was also powerful. Yeah kickboxers throw knee's and elbows, but seriously doubt that they could get close enough to throw it before losing the fight, in turn not being able to throw it at all. I've seen those kickboxers throw kicks and spin all the way around, c'mon, in a serious fight with a master, you'll let your momentum turn your back on a fighter! Bruce had tons of 1 hitter quiters to get you out of there if he didn't want to play with you. This is a passage from one of Bruce Lee's books on movement.

" Skill in movement is very important in the art of fighting. It is heavily relied upon in attack, defense, deception and conversion of energy. It is your proficiency in mobility or footwork that is contingent upon precise distance between you and your opponent. The strategy of footwork is to take advantage of your opponent's footwork with your own. Your attack or defense may be based on the opponent's foot pattern of advancing and backing off."

I really don't think a thai fighter could get in close enough without paying for it.

Can you really imagine that?
Bruce Lee, bout 30 years ahead of his time
You can't win fighting someone that has 30 times your ability.
Lets say for time sake, Bruce didn't die, you really think Bruce would have held to the knowledge that he had in 1976 and not progressed and further?
Bruce lee has changed the way that all of these styles are fought. Not with flashy stuff that wouldn't have a chance in a real match like flying elbow and knee attacks or Jet Li hay makers. But what bruce demonstated on film was real techniques and would stop a apponent head on (slowed down offcourse). I don't think these guys could beat Bruce Lee in his time, or if Bruce was in thier time, Provided he progressed at a the samed rate. You really don't know what that type of progression might have brought next with Bruce.

^^^^^I think bruce would get chopped to muesli... I mean, back in the days it was all wu-shu, long after bruce came jeet kun do now being continued by his daughter still giving clinique globally. But in the mean time loads of asian ( and non-asain ) martial arts have been brought to the people, by todays standards a black belt can do more harm than a black belt in the 70's. Not to bring down the whole Jeet Kun Do art or bruce for that matter, but there's power in the man which is not related to Jeet Kun Do, it related to the lifestyle belonging to Kung Fu in general which brought him so far alike the shaolin.

Muay Thai or plain kick boxer is mostly like a dog, surprised when beaten, they simply engage and the technique opens tonns of gaps for other martial arts to counter attack ( like the spinning kicks mentioned before, a, his back towards the opponent and b, he's probably standing on one foot...now I know what that means hehe ). In general, not the most practical art imo, a jiu-jitsu master alike the grace family would simply floor his opponent and lock him when on the floor since muay thai boxers are defenceless on the ground. Same for Pancrase and similar arts in a vale tudos situation.

personaly...

I'd go for Eskrima, Kali, Arnis, Dumog, Pancrase, Krav Maga, Pencak ( cobrastyle ) & Kun Toa Silat, Jiu Jitsu any of those combined with boxing disciplines alike shotokan karate.

I dont care how Fast or how Strong u are.. If anyone of them Bruce , Jackie, Tony, Jet .. gets hot in the Wind Pipe there goin down im sorry... People break there own Legs and Arms Fighting Kickboxers..

When it really goes Down to who would Win.. its who's Smarter.. because there going to Use the other fighters advantage as there Disadvantage...you can use a Mans Strength/quickness etc against him

I personally Took Tae Kwon Do/kickboxing(kickboxing at 15) since the Age of 6 im now 21 (ehh end of the month i'll be 21) Basically its the art of Kicking and punching most people see it as show off Sport rather than a fighting Tech.. but, its all how its Being applied

Forman you might be right about black belts today being Stronger.. but u must realize.. Asians Train a WHOLE lot different when it comes to martial arts.. And even if u had a Asian, black, Jap or Korean Hand down instructor that knew these techniques.. there not Teaching the Same Methods like they were taught.. Ernie Rayes (Korean dude in Rush Hour 2 and Ninja Turtles 2) use to teach the West coast Karate Team which was a Tae Kwon do/ Kickboxers school on the West side of Oakland Ca thats where i started.. When Ernie Rayes SR wanted to use those Training Techniques alot of Parents too there kids out of the school.... when that guy was Raised he was jabbin his Fingers into Hot Sand and chains at young age and he taught his kids the same way (most Asians do its how they do they do it).. these days they wont allow that in Most schools here in the United States.. So i mean believe it or not those Methods of Mental and Physical training make a Big Diff... and also back then they were training because they had to these days its because they want to
lol i mean there are black belts that still think the touch of Death is a inch Punch to the Sternum and it goes Way way deeper than that.. Scientist wont even dismiss as a lie because they can't prove its false... this is why people had to get there hands Registered in the united States once they hit a certain Degree in there Artforms,,because people were becoming Weapons.. litterally hitting people so they would internally Bleed on the Inside and no have a Scratch or Bruise on the outside .. alot of people cant get there mind set to controll that power bruce lee and other old Fashioned Style trained Fights can..

Everything is candied down once it hits the Us serious

but yea All in all heh comes down too who's Smarter

I know how things runn down once in the US, hence there being pretty much Dutch UFC and K1 champions so far ( j/k ). But from my experience and those of martial pro's I know of are down training the roots of all I mentioned above. Their sensei's, masters or trainers are in the line of the master of this style subjected. This master pretty much does nothing else then tour the world and give clinics to his pupils, them being the trainers of the " ordinary " pupils. In other words, lots of martial arts are good when the organisation behind it keeps thing moving in honor of their martial system... Eskrima through Jason Inayan system, gives clinics in the netherlands twice a year, the sensei takes a clinic twice a year in Jason's dojo. Same for Jeet Kun Do, Bruces daughter travels the planet in favor of giving clinics as much as possible. I know of another phenomenon many would envy... I dunno if anyone knows DJ TeeBee ( or TB ), cunning D&B producer/DJ from norway... Became kung fu world champion at 14 because he had been trained by a shaolin monk from the age of 7. The shaolin master happened to be his neighbour due to political reasons and after he saw his shaolin neighbour train he asked to be trained. As their were no one else to train his style to, TB was the one take the honor and continue this line of kung fu as the last one by this master.

Anyway, I know what you're saying but it's up to the organisation behind the art that enables you to learn the craft or the crap, it takes a lot to keep things going, clinics are one of them. They way I see it here at a friends club, 14 clinics a years on different styles of martial arts definitly keeps you in perspective hehe.

Ow yeah, I'm pretty much based on arts based on street fighting ( being indo ) Pencak Silat and Pilipino seem to me to be the most efficient to stop anything coming my way rather resolute. I had been looking at Tae Kwan Do too at early age but got into Shotokan Karate instead because Im not content with style that depends on kickin too much.
