Now let me explain...this is what I want you to understand...not very many people here care about "the technicalities" of Mastering at this point. You can't condemn anyone for wanting to know and learn the process regardless of the 'requirements'. There's a good chance that everyone here WILL NOT per sue music as an only means of putting food on the table. Sure it would be nice if that were so, but it's not realistic at all. That in mind, there's nothing wrong with trying to learn the process with the tools that they have. That's what hip hop was built on...doing it with what you have. There's tons of information on the internet concerning Mastering, the problem is there isn't an official rule book on the topic.
Your process may be different than the next mans and thats ok, it doesn't necessarily mean his process is wrong and thats the beauty of it. Some say Ozone is the best, some say Waves is...it doesn't matter. I heard twice in the past couple of weeks NOT to use stereo imaging in the Mastering Process but thats one of the tools that comes with Ozone 5 Advanced Mastering Suite! I've heard that you EQ after compression but yet HarBal and several other top mastering engineers say it doesn't matter as long as you know what you're doing.
As for compression, I just don't see how hard it is to grab four main principles...attack, release, threshold and ratio. I mean if you use it enough, you will eventually get better with it...if not, then you stop. Very simple concept. Samer thing with Mastering...I encourage everyone to test it and try it out over letting someone tell them they can't do it. I feel like everyone here is smart enough to try it and if they can't get a grasp of it, they'll stop trying on their own...in other words, they don't need someone telling them what they can't do without atleast trying to help them out first. If my way of doing what I do is wrong, show me different, post the correct way rather than sitting in the shadows and waiting to ambush me, thats wack!
Rant Over =)
