When you look at the rap industry there appears to be a swing to the southern artists.
I think I know why but if I'm wrong please set me straight and let me know what's the deal.
Looking at the map of the US 90% of this country is country.
Pennsyvania is country as a mutha once you get out of the Philly Suburbs beleive it or not.
1st Does the south actually have better rappers than the one's who are making it to MTV/BET. Lord I hope so.
It seems to me the South doesn't take in account lyrics or flow.
Timb can't find a good rapper to save his life. (Peedy)
Pastor Troy ruined the 2002 beat of the year to me "Are we Cuttin" thank God for Jade on that one.
Lil Jon screams slogans and lil flip well (see Too Short)
Cash Money, Master P. Not lyrical/flow geniuses.
These cat's have sold a lot of records and they played their shyt here in
Philly but I did not know alot of people who copped their shyt.
If they did it was bootlegged.
I know no-one with a Nelly CD.
We all know what happened to Chingy when he came to Philly.
They tried to assasinate him.
If you look at the succesful new artists in the past few years they have all been from the south. Exclude anyone under Dre.
Their are some rappers in the south (Trick Daddy, Scarface, Nappy Roots, David Banner) that can actually rap (Flow / Lyrics) and I have love for so don't think I'm hating.
Hey, We actually have to lay claim to "Can't Won't Don't Stop". AGGGH I hate that track.
Is it a fact that bootlegging is not practiced on every corner in the south like it is in the east? ( Philly, New York.)
Can an artist earn a living off of selling their records out their trunk?
I have heard the numbers that groups do in the south (some listed above) .
Do you buy bootlegs or hit the store when an album comes out?
Do you know people or do you buy CD's off of artists selling them in the street.
I look at it from this perspective as a major record label.
Would you invest million's of dollars in a artist when you know his shyt will be bootlegged to death before you release it. And the people in the south who would cop it aren't feeling it.
Where are you going to get sales from.
Cassidy is a nice rapper from Philly. But he already owes dough out of his ass that he has to recoup. . R Kelly on your first single. Ouch, That's gonna cost you. Swiss on production. Ouch again. If he doesn't fo 3 times Platinum he would have been better off getting a job.
I'm telling you in Philly soon as his album hit's it will bootlegged and he's gonna lose alot of sales from his own city. ( See Freeway)
It seems to me the city's these artists are from really support them.
Philly is the hater nation capitol of the world.
So I am actually very interested in seeing how Cassidy does. The hype surrounding him in Philly is crazy right now. If he does not go platinum this may be it for Philly Rappers Fukin with major labels.
Freeway got ton's of radioplay in philly and if he went platinum he barely made it. . Beans hasn't gone platinum yet with two releases. Both of those artists have a bigger following than Cassidy and both fell victim to bootlegging. I could have the bangest CD in Philly and I could never sell 20,000 cd's on the street. First if it was that hot the bootleggers would cut me in half anyway.
I went to Florida for two weeks in Dec.
Bootlegs in florida were going for $10 a cd.
In Philly you can get 4 for $10. And these dudes walk thru the hood all day.
At the Jersey mart you can buy them in bulk for $1 a CD.
If you know how little flip or some of these other rappers did it let me know. Did they buy the DJ's at the club/Radio Stations.
I know some had illegal Biz on the side, to help fund it.
That's cool my dough will be much longer down their than up here.
I just need to know how it works.
Is money keeping you from doing the same thing.
Hey like Biggie said Nickels go for Twenty's down south.
Is it time to pack up my raw power moves and move down south.
Anyone form the south please comment and let me know what the deal.
