Great tune! Love how you used asymmetric beats. Really gives this tune it's own character. While it has that old school west coast feel, it still fresh and interesting. I don't think 808s really fit, and a punchy vinyl kick would definitely give this a dope groove. Digging this tune! -

What gear is everybody rocking?
Which version of Cubase are you using? I always loved it as a DAW. My high school had a MIDI studio that ran VST 32. I started on 3 then SX. I know Cubase/Steinberg had some dark days, but it really looks like a great platform now. I went with Logic due to the integration with Mac and the price. -
2000xl drift
Assuming the tracks/sequence programming is similar on the 2000XL as my 1000....I really hate that whenever I create a new sequence, it defaults back to 120bpm. -

Snare absolutely slaps!! The bass is nice as well. That organ chord in the background helps add gravity and bounce. The vocal chops are great and there's some cool atmosphere here. Sidechaining/ducking.
A cool technique to really get a sharper/tighter sidechain is by using a ghost trigger, specifically a wave form. Most any synth has tempo-synced LFOs or wave tables. Load up an instance of Massive (or synth of choice) create a basic sine wave and sync it to your tempo. Essentially, get it...
