Times change and I believe it should be higher today, but it just depends on the beat and what you think you're worth, plus what the market is like. At what point does sampling feel like stealing ?
I never listen to anything new when looking for samples. I guess it's just a habit but I like checking for only old stuff because I like to find obscure music and there's a lot of weird stuff out there. One time I found a tiny piano part from a random Italian horror movie from the early 1970s... -
