I sold a beat to T.I. after two weeks in producing. I made 'Bring em out', if you listen to it you can hear it's made by someone 2 weeks into beats. -

Hi-Lo: You still can have your sounds seperated even though they're on the same pattern. As long as their on different channels. My beats often consist of 4 Bar patterns, with different variations. And you clone patterns by clicking the top-left icon in the playlist and choose Pattern > Clone... -

Chop the sample at the kick and snare. It helps when you're layering the drums. -

FL Studio 6 vs. Abelton Live 5
I gotta go with FL Studio as well... You don't need a MIDI controller, which is awsome if you're on a budget. FL does this as well if the samples got regions in it. Either way FL can time-stretch without regions.
