yeah -- my dude has one -- and it's sampler is and does exactly what you said -- plus it comes with the effects that you can insert in real-time which is nice -- but the sequencer is horrible -- i've noticed that it breaks a little, in song mode, when there are a good amount of sequences put... -

make sure you get 1/4" stereo to 1/8" stereo connectors -- that way you won't have to record in mono -

Basslines On The Mpc
you can also take the bass hit -- and find a good segment of it that sounds pretty consistent and try looping it to get a sustained note (until you release the pad) -- that way when you assign the auto chromatic (16 levels), they will all play as sustained notes until you release -
