A now again, the chorus is done by a GIRL or WOMAN, so not a man not the isley brothers, the song is not in their style at all. It's more and uptime disco kind of song. Something like 1999 by prince with a similar kind of Woman singing the chorus. -

...slow? Did you checked if the tuning of your pad was preset lower than 0? That would be the only possible reason because you said yu didn't do anything with the sample but asigning it to a pad. -
Beats sounding the same
some producer said "Make sure your snare sounds like a gun shot and your kick sound like some one is knocking on the door". Try to layer your drums, use like 4 kicks at the same time and 2 snares or a snare and a clap. But make sure they sound nice, if it sounds like crap use diffrent snares... -
