yeah thats part of my plan cos i know i aint tha best producer and all that but if im ok now im just trying to think if/how good il be when im the same age as some of these cats on here

age dont me shit, nether does years put in(to a certain point)
its talent that matters if ur wack ur wack,if your dope your dope. Ive met some wack ass 43 year olds who have been producing for decades Ive meet and some dope ass teenages who just starting(and vice versa)
Just becasue you do something for a long ass time Doess not mean u will become good at it, i know dudes who play ball for years and still suck, you gotta have the talent and apititue for it... thats what u should be focusing on

i wouldent worry about who is the youngiest dope producer on the site, just worry about who are the better producers on the site and study them, who cares what age they are... thats kinda lame actually... but again i know ur only 13 so you dont know better..

Dont expect a cookie casue ur 13...

Be easy and good luck

I'm young too man, 14, but to me it doesn't really mean much except the fact that I get more free time to make beats. All that does matter is how hard you work and how strong your love and dedication is to this art. There could be a 12 year old making beats and 30 year old, and if both had that dedication, love, hard work, that open mindedness to learn, and some talent, then the one that uses all that is gonna be going somewhere. Age means nothing.

i actually started when i was 13 too...good starting age i suppose.

the be all, end all answer from me to you is this...

your identity needs to be based on your beats as a producer...you can expose your personal life when you get a spot in scratch magazine. thats not to say don't be open, i'm saying the thing that should set you apart is your beats, not your age. I know you were probably just doing a roll call to see if you have any cats on here as young as you...but it did come off like "am i the only decent producer who's 13?". its all good though...stay on the grind and once you're able to, post your shit in the showcase, give and get feedback and work on your craft. once you get further in high school and college on, you will have less and less time ( i kind of just put the time in anyway but thats a different story haha)...

i agree with classic that when it comes down to it, you can make beats for years and if you have no talent, you won't suddenly have it. That being said, keep at it. The respectful exchange of advice and pointers between producers is priceless in the beginning.

Also, concentrate on having your OWN style...for the LOVE OF GOD. Nothing wrong with having influences but you gotta be unique. cookie cutters are just for cutting cookies nahmean?

peace.

ha! i'm 18 and i started when i was 11.... lol bragging rights. not.

What you younger guys need to be doing is playin it smart while you still can. Your not old enough to get jobs but as you as you can get a job start working. I worked 4-5 days a week for 2 and a half years while still living at home. I've made a grip of money and spent damn near every paycheck on equipment. I had an appetite to make it among the best because i mastered what I had before i could get the nice equipment. Stay focused and dedicate yourself. All of you will elevate if you stay to the script!!

Peace

I simply wish i had the resources to even make beats when i was 13 or somewhere around there. I know software has allowed many people to explore their talents at a much younger age, but ive known kids who were lucky enought to even own their own turntables and drum machines when they were that age! - That to me is crazy, cuz my poor as just finally got a turntable of my own say about 3 years ago! haha. Just remember to appreciate what u got thats all i know. Big ups to the kids who are tryin to learn at that young of a age, im just jealous i never got to. :)

The most important thing is that you learn hip-hop though...when I was 13 I didn't know much about hip-hop.

Dont sweat it boy, everyone understood. Keep it up and, if you can, learn some music theory. It's not a necessity, but it's a plus, a BIG plus...

To not furher set this stone of negativity rolling I will anwer your question right off.

I started making Hip Hop beats when I was around 13 or 14. I'm 23 now.
I started making music before that, but that was just trakker progs I made techno and dance music in when I was a kid. but I think that has helped me anyways in order to appreciate and know harmonies and melodies.

So man, 13 as it may I wish you good luck. Find your way, find your style. That's the most important thing (provided you got some starting talent and music ears).

It took me several years to form my own style. I was like. "na man, i need to make a hard beat like those M.O.P" or whatever, but now I let my own music tell my story.

That's what it's all about. Letting your own style come forth telling the story of your heart.

I think its more about musical talent than age. In any case when I do meet younger producers I tend to be a little easier on them than the older ones. I mean I dont do it to just brush the little ones off or give them false hope, its more like Im showing them somebody is paying attention to their dream and takes them seriously. But yeah like its been said theres nothing magical about starting music young, but I do believe being musically inclined like a grown man whos had time to perfect their craft at 11 is talent, even if its more of a learning talent than music

I'm glad I started out producing exactly when I did (early 20's) because things happen for a reason. Stepping from behind the mic and in front of the drum machine represented an evolution for me, I wanted to be more responsible for shaping the entire sound of my recordings instead of just being "Track 1 vocals" ya feel me??

The way I look at it, I got my whole LIFE to be a ill producer/beatmaker or whatever.
RZA started messin with beats roughly at age 28-29, and look at how many cats he inspired. Most working industry producers are 30-something so never give up on your goal or believe that you're too old (or young)

Too all you young dudes out there, just learn from people more established, volunteer at studios and make contacts, if you use your teenage years as an internship, then you'll increase your chances of becoming a working producer before the bills, babies, and nagging wives set into your life.

P.S. -- Don't brag about how young you are, there are people in this business that wake up everyday looking for a young guy to rip off, don't let it be you!
