Im not really sure what your budget is...i mean there's so many different directions you can go in.

First thing I'd say is don't be opposed to computers. These aren't a joke anymore...reason is a professional quality program that's earning users as talented as Just blaze (no joke, I heard JB say in an interview he may switch all of his beatmaking over to reason and stop using his traditional rack.) Reason is a must, in my opinion. I think the sequencing within it is fine but if you're really into all that there's cubase and Pro tools, if you will be recording and tracking.

For a sampler, just go simple. MPC 2000XL, 2500, or a Roland MV8000 will do you just fine.

Keyboard...I don't really know what you have in mind...stay away from the triton, the sounds have been exhausted and its a great piece of equipment but its just been overused. The ASR 10 is still my gold standard...unless you're just looking for a midi keyboard (in which case check out M-Audio's options). If you have the money, go on ebay and get an ASR 10 (by Esoniq)...the thing is an absolute beast in the studio.

A good rack module/synth is invaluable for creating and having a broad library of sounds but they will cost you. a fantom xr or motif es will run you over a thou. If that's out of your budget, just look into downloading and buying sound libraries (reason also comes with a whole lotta sounds).

Your computer, especially with Pro Tools, can serve as the best recording equipment you can have.

I was originally thinking. Korg Electribe Es-1 MKII sampler, getting a keyboard or a midi keyboard, whats the difference between the two keyboards? The last part id need is the recorder right? Or am i just missing a whole other part. Shit im confused? I appreciate that Hi-Lo

I mean any keyboard like a Triton or ASR could technically be called a MIDI keyboard. But when I say MIDI keyboard, I'm more referring to a simple M-Audio style keyboard that doesn't have any sound banks or the features of a Triton or ASR, but can just have samples loaded onto it. The Triton and ASR are more comprehensive units that are more expensive but also a lot more powerful...I would compare it to the difference between an AKAI MPC USB Pad, and an actual MPC.

For a recorder, use your PC. I think you're meaning recording as in recording your beats, not as in recording vocals and rendering complete songs. If that's the case, you can stick with a sequencer like Reason, Cubase, or FL Studio. You only need Pro Tools for professional quality tracking.

you can get an mc505 on e-bay nowadays for like $250, drum machines rule.
asr's are cheap as hell now too. i have one loaded that i would sell for $500.
hardware is cool and has a real hands-on feel, but you should utilize the g4 as much as possible!
