sm58 is the best all around dynamic mic

get the beta versions of the SMs and you've got some really good mics, 57s are better in general for instruments and 58s for vocals etc ! there is a pretty big difference between then regular SMs and the beta versions its definately worth the extra money !

never heard of beta versions , diffrent pickups or suttin?

also some good advice is, radio shack normally keeps a display wide open in the back end of their stores with all their dynamic mics. u can straight up, just take the mics right out of their little stands and slip em in yur pocket and be out, thats how u get mics for freezie

i think the sm58 goes for exactly 100, u can actually get sum ok condenser mics for under 100 if u look, by mxl .they also make sum generic sm58 wananbes around the 50 dollar range , but they are made by sure so they aint half bad at all . i did some decent recording with one. that was one of the ones i stole from radio shack, yo, on the real, radio shack is sooooooo easy to steal from

The SM-58 is really nice, rugged mic for that price. I used it a lot until my friend dropped the fuckin thing and dented the cone! Then my dad stole it from me! Arrrhhh I gotta get it back.

Like everyone said - the SM-58 are the best for around $100 and they're built like tanks. You can beat somebody to death with that shit and it'll still work fine! The Beta 58A is a bit better but its like $60 more. You can also get a Shure PG58 for like $60 but. I never used PG58 but I've read some good reviews for it. BTW, what are you using it for - recording or live performance?

MXL is just another brand of mics made by Marshall - Check here: http://www.mxlmics.com/
They make low to mid priced condenser mics. I agree with Bastard, for home recording you might want to look into a condenser mic. There are a few decent ones out there for under $100 by MXL, Sampson, Behringer, etc. They could all be connected to your mixer - XLR is just the type of cables the mixer takes, but you can pick up XLR cables for most mics. Check some online music gear shops and do some research and read some reviews.

shure sm7b is the king of dynamics... im gettin one next paycheck.. like the sm57 on crack .. i have the beta version of the sm58 and it is nice too..
