Elitist snobism. People want to think they're cool cuz they can spin turntables... Yawn... If something is funky, it obviously doesn't matter how the fuck it was produced so deal with it.

There is nothing wrong with keyboard beats depending on how they sound. 9 out of 10 times, keyboard beats sound like glorified elevator music.

AS long as the end result is a quality beat, it really doesn't matter how you went about doing it. I prefer composing original beats over sampling but that's not to say that sampling takes any less skill.

The outcome is the most important thing, no matter what you use.

I build some beats from scratch using keyboard, sample cd's, refills etc some I build from 1 or more samples.
Both ways are equally difficult, don't doubt that.

However, I'd only use samples that haven't been touched before and they have to be so obvious that I know they gonna bang just from the first note...

I think a combination of both is best. I use both. Sampling is dope because you get a real warm and rich sound, and I find I end up with really dope melodies/bass lines that I would never think of while using a keyboard. Using keyboard sounds are good because you can get exactly what you want, when you find the right sample to work with.

Me presonally I dont sample (thats much) there is nothing wrong with it I guess but if every ones down loading these "sample" beats, horns go right a head each to there own but you might come across someone with the same melody, bass line what ever. For me though I like the thought when I listen to me beat I know I compossed ever part of the track. I use a keyboard, midi, fruity loops, sonar, drum machine what ever sounds right at the time is what I use. Some of my best track have been all done with midi there aint nothing wrong
thats what its there for right. EXPERIMENT dont say one sound aint hip hop just cuz you cant do anything with it dont mean that it aint a hot sound, too another it might be bangin
so my finally words are each to there own as long as the final product sounds good who really cares !!!!

I think a competition between keyboard beats and sampler beats is stupid. I don't have a sampler or a keyboard yet so pretty much all of my stuff is made on the keyboard thing that comes with FruityLoops or from the piano roll, but I have tried messing around a bit getting real samples off the internet. My favorite thing to do with a keyboard is to use an acoustic recording and then play that on there. I don't like the digital sound that you usually get from the instruments that come with keyboards, reminds me of video game music.

i use to be a hard cord never sample guy and only made keybord beats but i find it fun to play around with a one shot sample on the mpc.....i love the note variation alot. i own a motif and sometimes ill just sample a few sounds into my mpc from the motif and i have alot of fun with what combos i could come up with but when its time to get that god old melody aint nothing like have a keyboard so you can get what ever tune that is stuck in your head out and out the just like the way you wanted it to come out but as far. I use to say i dont sample but i will sample small things things that are too small to even know where it came from....ill turn anything into sound but i dont like to loop. when i say i dont sample thats what i mean i dont like to loop shit

in all honesty -- whether it's sampled or keyboard -- it takes skill to accomplish either -- they both require practice to develop -- therefore, to all the biased personalities, i say -- DO YOU -- just realize it is defining an entire culture every single day -- through both methods along with others -- the mere integration of both creates another untapped spectrum -- just something to think about

:dj: Yo it don't matter what you use....I use a triton and a mpc4000 sometimes I use em together to make some SICK material but when I use em separately I make keyboard type beats wit the triton and sample soul classics wit the mpc...It doesn't really matter...If anything I suggest all ya muthafuckaz learn how to both sample and make keyboard beats...it can only help in the long run...Peep it never limit yaself to just one style...its pointless...You can use keyboards beats to make some grimy shit if u need to....it just takes time....and also wit samplin u can chop up a sample and make it completely yours, plus thats very creative....1 (and no I aint talkin bout full jacking a beat either....thats only good sometimes LOL)
