So I'm thinkin of buyin a new set of decks. I don't have too much loot to spend but I want a decent set of direct drive joints. Obviously that leaves some Techs out of the pic. No biggie. I was thinkin of coppin the Numark direct drive scratch package. 2 tables and a mixer. I have the rest. I wanna start makin mixed CD's and scratchin hooks for my joints. So all my DJ's get at me,,,,,

You mentioned the Numark package. If you haven't done it already, see if Guitar World has them on display (if you have GW in your location) and play with them. What you need to check for is "Torque speed" and turntable stability. You want some TTs' that have high torque speed in other words: the speed in which the turntable starts and stops. You don't want drag when you start and stop your records. The other and most important thing is turntable stability. Some turntables wobble when you scratch on them. THIS IS BAD! Please stay away from these if you can if you ar using these to do some DJing on. I hear that Gemini has some real nice joints at a low price (I was very surprized to read that!!!) The article is in one of the SCRATCH mags (don't recall which one but on of the X-ecutioners tryed them out and was diggin' 'em. But look for those 2 things I mentioned in every turntable you check out. I hope that helps.

The best thing to do is to try them out. I have used the numark direct drive turntables and they will do you can scratch fine on them but they dont obviously have the feel of technics which i use. You notice the difference more so in the durability but for mixtapes and general parties they are fine the direct drive ones......

word yall thanks for the advice,,,I used to have 12's back in the day and a gemini 2000. I really want the Numark CDx's But that shit is crazy expensive, so I'll copp me some wax tables and get those down the road. also, anyone copp records online? Any good spots?

yea the numark directs are good for starters, you dnt want anything too good for your first set one because of cost and two because if you only ever mix on technics you go on sumthing else and it throws u off where as if u learn on sumthing a step down then it wont matter !

As another option, I think theres a decent Stanton pack (2 X direct drives and a mixer) out there if you search on the net for it. My advice is to spend as much as you can on your DJ setup. You get what you pay for.

save up and get something good if you really want to do this. Technics cost so much because they are rugged. If you are djing a crowded spot and the dancefloor is shaking other turntables will skip or bounce. I have owned the cheaper ones lol and you do get what you pay for. If you are willing to dj using coins to weight the needle down on the record lol ok but if not take it from me and save up and get good turntables a good mixer and darn good needles and spare needles and slipmats.

I know all that,,I used to DJ back in the days. I was just curious about the newer brands,,,wheni was spinnin back then it was Technics or nuttin. they will be just for the lab or a house party,,thats all. Mostly for the lab tho.
