Can somebody please tell me how you know when you are satisfied with your beat. I always think I need to add something. Little before I know, the beat gets trashed with a whole lotta bulls##t I put in there like extra claps and all that.

When can you all tell that you are done your banga?!! HoLla

it's a feeling you get.

Once I get the feeling that the beat is dope, I don't usually add much more stuff to it because it can be counter productive and after the vocals have been layed down you'll have a better idea of what extra stuff (if any) should be added to complete the track

Well, that's hard for me too ...(is there something I could add? I could take out?... etc...) Normally, I ask someone else, like a friend or an MC...

And sometimes, I just listen to the beat over and over, and at one point, I can say myself if it's done...

when ur nodding ur head like crazy, maybe have 3 or 4 versions of ur tweaking, ut let the original be as it is,when u decide to add stuff. i guess you can always add to any track. i listen to some stuff on Cd or radio i really like, yet in my head i could still add stuff to it.

Sometimes if I have a feeling that the beat needs something I just add some bass, drum or hi-hat tricks around the beat and suddenly the feeling is gone =)
But I ain't telling that after that my beats wouldn't need something more, but f*ckit cuz the feeling is gone =)

And atleast in this way you don't put too much crap over your beat...

well, for the most part.. u dont want to over clutter ya beats wit madd sounds then u already put in..like someone sed b4 , that can be counterproductive.. to me its all up to ur initiative to kno when ur done..its like drinkin l0l.. u dont wanna drink too much or else u get fucced up.

But ass for me.. im constantly listening to my beats over and over , even beats from years ago.. i can quite honestly say im never quite "done" wit a beat until a week after the arrangement and production is... this is because im always tweekin the eq's n shit and the compressors lookin for that perfect sound.

i think it comes with experience.. when i was starting out i put so much extra bullshit in my beats it was stupid .. now i keep it basic and wait till the vocals are in place .. even then i still dont change THAT much.. when the beat "makes sense" (if that makes sense lol) thats when i stop

simplicity = better with hiphop
well maybe not better, cuz i wouldnt say cypress hill beats, and boxhead shit is simple, but say like primo, where often its a couple samples, but it all works together

look at that tipsy beat by jakwon or whatevr, its so simple!
