When the baby's here, I'm kicked out...

... of the room I make music in. We've got 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen. Now when the baby's here, I'm gonna have to move my ass out of the nursery with my music and find somewhere else in the house. I've basically got 2 options. Move up to the attic, but I'm worried about moisture and cold up there when I've got all my equipment set up. The second option is to get a shed of some sort in the garden. But that means having my equipment basically outside, so weather conditions would fuck it up and it would probably all get stolen.

If I was to move up to the attic, what special considerations would I have to make?

Make sure there aren't no damn bugs/rodents to get into your equiptment either.

Not really dude, we've got our bed in there and a chest of drawers and then there's not enough room for a desk. I don't know what I'm gonna do with this, I've got 2 months to come up with a solution.
do you have a common area like a tv room or something?

I mean if your attic is not insulated, I dunno how cold it gets in eagleland, but keeping in mind that heat DOES rise, I would think that would be a decent spot.. Besides, heat/humidity fucks with electronics more than the cold does.. I bring my iPod out into -40*C or below for the last few years, and it's till working fine..

There has to be at least 4-5 square feet of empty floor somewhere else in your house...

Best of luck with it mate. Sometimes it gets a bit hard to even squeeze a bit of space out for your music gear.

yo a minimal setup does not take up that much room at all, shit I don't even have a bedroom or room to myself where I'm living, I make beats at the dinner table, got my axiom sittin on a chair, laptop on the table, speakers, sub, etc. I'm guessing you don't have racks of equipment, money for acoustic treatment, etc., so a dinner table would probly do fine for you too, make the best out of what you got.

My little set up is proof that even with space you're sometimes too lazy to arrange everything you need to fit. Haha. My desk is doubling as space to do my school work, so everything is removable. Shouldn't be too hard for you to do something similar on your kitchen table.

That's a dope looking set up. I ain't got a kitchen table, but I've got a shelving unit in the front room behind the settee, so I'm thinking of going over there.

Can't hurt to give it a test run. I'm guessing with a baby in the house you'll be using headphones most of the time anyway? You might not even really have to include space for speakers.

To start with I'll be using headphones, but then in future I'll be investing in some monitors. We've got a walk in closet that would be ideal for doing my music in, but my girl doesn't want to get rid of it no matter how much I plead.

Haha, such is life I guess. I'm also perpetually saving up for monitors. My girl was awesome enough to get me those HD 280 pro's sitting on my desk for a Christmas present.

I'm going to be joining my girl in her apartment building at the end of the year. It's a small place, 1 bedroom, 1 bath, lounge and kitchen, so i'm going to be abit low on space for my set up too. Still want my damn monitors though. The upstairs neighbours make enough noise as it is, they could use a little retaliation!
