When do you think someone should stop making music? I think someone should stop when they rehash a past concept/concepts, fails to challenge him or herself musically and/or lyrically.

Honestly, as long as you have a passion for making music why stop? I make music for myself and if other people dig it too that's cool.
Agreed, I think its a feeling tbh. Maybe some people think about it too hard and its as simple as do I want to still make music. Maybe that kind of thinking might be a sign however, having never experienced I cannot not comment too extensively.

I don't think re-hashing is necessarily a reason to stop, but I do think it is a bad thing if it goes on too long and leaves you in a rut. Perhaps your are not looking for a solution, but a possible solution would be to collaborate, experriment with different genres, learn new techniques and styles, or try to emulate another artist for a different view point. I not saying long term copy someones style, but to deconstruct and emulate can bring a different creative perspective

It wouldn't be a good thing to just give up a passion and a gift that has been developed over time. I do agree with all the other posts in stating that if this is something that the artist is passionate about, there should be no timeline to the craft.

Lots of truth being shared. I agree that a person who enjoys making music should only stop if it ceases to b enjoyable. Sometimes it’s good to take a break to avoid burnout. If ur already burned out u just need to fill ur life with new or different stuff for a while. Sometimes a short break does it, but sometimes it takes longer. Shaking things up and trying new stuff can create surprising opportunities.

When you are making music as a hobby, I would also say do it as long as you are happy with it, even when there is a time where you have the feeling that you are stuck and don't improve.
But if you want to make a living out of it, get feedback as much as you can from everybody and NOT from family and friends. If this feedback is something you can work with or you can improve with, keep going. But if you invest and invest and invest and nobody digs you, no matter if you are a mixing engineer or rapper or songwriter... I don't know... safe your money for something else. Because business is different than a hobby.
