Welcome
@MrThraz and what's your musical history?
Man i've been in love with
music as long as i can remember.
my uncle was a dj in the 70's and
would rock house parties in jersey
and across the bridge. my grand-parents
would only let him go if he took me.
i guess they figured that if he had
someone to watch out for, that would
keep him out of trouble.
but.. because of that i fell in love
with hip-hop in particulare and music
in general.
i would try to make little rap crews
as i grew up but the constent problem
was getting beats.
i started making pause-tapes and my grand
mother caught me moleisting the famliy stereo
to make them.
my wonderful grand-mother, a hardworking
haitian woman, took it upon herself to
teach me music on her piano.
oh she was the best! worked all day but
came home and pulled the energy to
teach a boy how to read and write music.
taught me scales and how to play little
melodies.
until, me being a kid, forced my Grandma
to curse me, by being bored and wanting to
hang out with my friends in the boxing gym
and my homeboys i wrote songs with, i told
my grandma i'd rather hang out then practice
with her.
she gathered her things to go upstairs but
not before telling me that "one day! music
is all you will want to know and i will be
dead!"
so as a kid i made moves doing odd jobs for
studio and producer money.
hooked up with some cats i still love today
and dropped some tracks on the mixtape circuit.
afew of us got hooked up. the great dain was
one who sighed to wyclefs lable under Columbia
ruffhouse. dain died before he recorded his album.
at the time newark was real hot for me and i felt
if i stayed there i would die or be locked up. so i
joined the Army, became a machnic and got on the
all army boxing team.
years passed, i got out of the army, got married
and started working in tech. but music still called
my wife brought me a copy of fl to help me make music
and get me out of my funky moods
So i started in FLStudio, as a producer.
got a paying gig with carnival beats that
i lost 'cause my machine got a virus.
I moved to Linux (malware free ever since)
and learned how to make music there, then
got into Wine and found out i could have
my linux and windows apps side by side.
as i progressed in the
production game i started wondering
about hardware, so i got a couple
of SP's. from time to time i'll
mix it up using open source
software only, using flstudio
or using hardware only. it's
really interesting to see how
each platform effects the outcome.
so here i am, all these years later and i'm bout to
make an album using all open source software and
i'll be making the visuals as a motion comic with
open source software as well. thought i would hang
around here with like minded cats and sock up some energy.
