I listen to pretty much anything except for pop shit like Britney Spears and that new country shit. I mostly like to groove to some reggae and dancehall and some drum&bass and a little down-tempo if I'm not listening to hip-hop.

Hey,

It was a steady diet of Journey, Metallica and Slayer. And Iron Maiden in the 80's. In the 90's it was Joy Division and New Order, then moved on to techno.

I hear some of you laughing at Slayer!

You know the Public Enemy track 'She Watch Channel Zero' on It Takes a Nation of Millions...?

That main riff during the versus was a sample of Slayer's 'Angel of Death' from their '86 album Reign in Blood. It was produced by Rick Rubin and released on Def Jam, later to be released on Def America.

I hear some of you digging through your old vinyl collections... :D

Hey Nick, I feel you on all of that metal stuff. Back in high school a lot of my boys were really into that stuff so I sort of got into it. Needless to say, I was moshing to "Angel of Death" a few times. The funny thing was the constant arguments about which groups were "glam". LOL.

Joy Division and New Order had some good stuff too, I just can't remember any of it!

My parents listened to 70's and 80's disco, funk and pop...so I grew up with that shit... :help:

When my own taste for music developed I was living in the UK and it became Reggae, Ragga, Raggamuffin, Rap, Hip-Hop, Jungle etc... :smokin:

Today I listen to anything that is good and where I can acknowledge that it's well produced and that there's some thought behind, preferably not thoughts of money.
However, I only buy old Soul and Funk records, and Hip-Hop, R&B/Soul and Trip-Hop cd's. :thumb:

I've always hated metal or anything with a loud guitar riff...headaches, headaches, headaches.
:headbang:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I like to listen to 60-70s soul and funk too....shit like Delfonics, Tower of Power, Temptations, Sly and the Family Stone, War, Jimi Hendrix. I like to mix these influences with hip-hop for some of my tracks.

I like a lot of old stuff like James Brown and old breakbeats. Some rock n roll is cool. House musics i like to some extent. Jungle drives me nuts unless its some dope hip-hop remix. All the new jungle they are coming out with is very simplistic and annoying. Same damn beat with that grungey errrrrrr sound. Talk about headaches

I'm really into rock right now, like the whites stripes. I listen to alot of experimental techno tho (the classics; aphex twin, squarepusher, autechre but also new things; chris de luca, manitoba...).

dnt,

Wow, right up my alley! I only have one Aphex Twin record, the classic Digeridoo. Warp stuff is a little too odd for me, but I love the way they twist sounds up and make new ones.

What synths do you have?

Take care,

nick

vitaminman;
I'm using alot of software (reason's synths, absynth, reaktor, attack,...) but I don't have real synth. I respect these guys alot but what I do is different. Think prefuse73, el-p or chris de luca.

Aside from Hip-Hop I really get into experimental/electronic and tekno, d'n'b... a few examples would be Delerium, Aphex Twin, Autechre'... Rubixx, Psychic TV... Portishead. Pigface. Depending on the mood and environment nothing can be more perfect than hearing the right music.
