Hey everyone,
I had a debate with some close friends today about what makes a Dj HOT.
Have you ever been to a BANGIN PARTY BEFORE??
Please answer the following and holla back so that I can see which one of us is right:
1) When you go to a party, what are things that you hate that the DJ does?
2) What was the worse thing that a DJ did when you went to a party?
3) What were the best things that a DJ did at some of the parties you've been to?
Please help me win this bet!!!
I really dont want them to guess this right or else I'll be hearing their mouth all summer for it.
As a DJ myself and also the crowd pleasure, crowd rocker, and the life of the party.... I'll just give a list of do's and don'ts. If you disagree... it's cool.
- Don't over use sound fx or don't use them at all (Ex. Air Horns) <-- I find that annoying as fuck
- Don't hog the frikkin mic!! It's one thing when you're rocking the crowd with the mic, but DON'T TALK ON IT EVERY MINUTE!! It's annoying
- Play music for the girls, not the guys. What would you rather see... girls dancing or guys dancing? Yea.. I thought so.... so if they want Britney spears... play dat shit
- Give shout outs (hot girls, birthdays, graduation, funerals etc.)
- Try not to play the same song twice unless the song is REALLY REALLY HOTT.
- Keep your music updated. Nobody wants to hear old school all night long unless you're going to an old school night.
- When the party is bumpin and everyone is drunk as hell, throw on a few classic that EVERYONE knows.
- Keep the scratching and juggling to a minimum unless you're in a DMC competition. It may not be pleasant to the average listeners.
- If the song is hott, let it play! Don't cut it off and throw on a different song within 30 secs just to look cool. People hate that for some reason.
- Also, don't let the song play for TOO long. DO NOT and I mean DO NOT let the song get to the bridge. Change it up within the 2nd chorus.
- DON'T FORGET TO LOOK AT THE CROWD!! LOOK AT EVERYONE!! YES EVEN THE UGLY CHIC! You gotta make people bop their head if they're not dancing.
- Also, READ the crowd. Don't just play any type of music. Some crowds might not be into certain types of music. Ofcourse it doesn't hurt experimenting, but if they start walking off the dance floor, then you know you gotta change that shit!
- Don't hesitate to accept tips. Some people are dumb enough to request for a certain song that you will surely play sometime during the night and offer you money. Just take the money and knodd your head. SUCKERS!!
- Again... don't forget... NO AIR HORNS PLEASE! Yea I know some of you DJs out there think its cool to throw that annoying sound on mixes and shit like that. But on the real.... that shit is annoying! When I'm partying instead of DJ'n and I hear that... I'm like WTF!?!? WHY DO SOME OF YOU DJs LOVE USING THAT SOUND!?!! lol
Overall, what makes a hott DJ? I say..... good music selection and has to get the crowd rock'n and feel the crowd. So if the crowd is feelin the DJ and the DJ is feelin the crowd, that equals a HOTT PARTY!
I think thats it for now. I can't really think I'm still recovering from last night.
