I had 2 computer screens hooked up for a while until my friend had to use the extra one again. It was amazing how much more stuff I could do at one time! If someone can afford it, I would highly suggest getting two screens, its also really impressive to your clients to see a dual screen setup in your home studio.

Having two monitors will allow you, well, twice the monitor space, in the case of say your fruity loops or even reason - you can actually place the components say for example if your using fruityloops, you can place your playlist and sample browser in the left monitor, and that leaves the entire right monitor free to open another like the piano roll or fx panel, it is the same for reason, as reason users know - reason uses separate components and having that extra monitor will give you somwhere to put idle components like your fx's that don't need much tinkering, I am waiting on mines now - got two 19"s off ebay for $120 shipping incled, cant wait

Werd I would love to have a 2 (computer) monitor setup.

Its not that expensive either. The daul monitor video card is less than $100 I believe. And you can get a monitor for real cheap or even free offline. I know on craigslist.org people and buisnesses are always given away working monitors.
Shoot the school I work @ was throwing away comps and I coulda took a couple monitors(all working and only 3 years old) But had no way of getting it home (work in harlem, live in brooklyn)

My only problem is my computer (even tho I bought it and own it not my fam) is the only comp in the house so its the family comp and theyl freak out wit 2 monitors.

Any 1 use or was thinking about those touch screen kits. The screen you put over ur monitor and hook to the comp by usb and it turns ya monitor to a touch screen. That would be cool to control ya software with.

ok with two computer screens means that u mite as well get a memory upgrade as well so then u can use the programs of your choice without killing your processor.

another thing... more then anything these are just suggestions... shyt as long as u produce hot tracks it doesnt matter how you do it... it can be on PS2 music generator and if its hot then it sells.

so having two screens is cool... is it necessary? no... having 6 speakers is cool is it necessary? no

the thing to remember is that unless you feel comfortable with your setup you wont have fun making tracks... and he bottom line of all this for me is to make tracks and get paid while im doing something that i love.

and to elaborate on the conversation between me and beats perfected... it was basically about necessity... as long as ur on a budget keep it simple but if you got it then flaunt it and keep upgrading or you wont go far.

whatever floats your boat is how you should see it... as long as im making hot tracks im looking to upgrade to better the finished product... thats all.... its not that complicated. tyo me having six speakers is an upgrade over having only two... and having two monitors is an upgrade over having one... but like i said before these are not necessities they are more like addons...so you do you... and i'll do me... and we''ll all be one happy family...

For your computer you need to get a fast processor. The most common processors are AMD and Pentium. Intel manufacture the pentium and the celeron.

Celeron is cheaper, than the pentium but is not as fast. THerefore you get what you pay for. I'd personally go for an AMD chip. So really just go for the fastest you can afford.

Also, you'll need lots of disk space (40GB is minimum for today's standards) to hold your samples. When it comes to RAM get atleast 512MB RAM.

And probably the most important is a decent soundcard. Do research on this according to the amount of in's and out's your going to use.

A nice big monitor is always a help too. I don't know about prices over in the US but building your own PC is easily the cheapest option. It's not very hard, but if your not confient with PC's, usually you can pick up a good bargain on ebay.

It's hard enough to even find a used computer powerfull enough for live recording under 650 bucks, so I meant if someone dosen't already have a computer, then I would first get the computer. But if someone has a computer they could spend the cash on speakers(monitors) and, let's say a M-Audio soundcard, or a mic. I think the computer, speakers, soundcard and midi controller( keyboard or pads) should be what he buys first, unless he dosen't have a computer. In that case I would buy the computer first and use the stock sound card and a home stereo.

I still don't know if you meant 6 seperate pairs of speakers(monitors) is what you use, or 6 speakers at the same time. I have more then 2 sets of speakers hooked up to A/B the different sets, but I only use 2 at one time. I use some Yamaha NS-10's( the speakers in that new Pac and Biggie/Eminem video, you know, the ones with white woofers) and I also use a pair of self powered KRK monitors. Plus I have a cheapo pair of computer speakers to see how the mix will sound on smaller crappy speakers.

put it like this i use 6 speakers... maybe later ill post a coupla pics of each individual speaker and its location in my room. and yes they play at the same time. along with a pair of headphones that i use to hear minute details.

6 speakers is kind of odd to me but its not like you wont be able to make beats. I think as long as no surround sound or dobly digital surround sound or any type of surround sound feature on your amp or reciever is switched on, 6 speakers shouldn't give you problems.

A good soundcard and fast cpu and lots of memory is your priority i think. cos u can just get da software for free, harharhar , u should get some studio monitors and a midi keyboard later.

What You Could Accomplish With $650

You could get an ill condensor mic that runs about $200-400 bucks, then get an ill sound card which would run you about $60-200 you can get better ones for more money, they actually make some really nice soundcards built especially for recording and studio work. with that said you will want some ill programs. I sample with Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and make all my beats with Fruityloops and Flstudio, Also check out hip hop ejay for a load of nice lil samples 3500 to be exact. These are just a couple things you could get for 600. Let me know how it's going.
