Ok i want to go to an recording school than an a big college, but the only good school i have found is fullsail and thats because its not to far from alabama(i am going to miss that place when i leave) and i can't realy find and recording schools around that area. Plus my mom wants me to go to a major college wait let me rephrase that, my mom is making me go to a major college, so what is some aspects of a recording school i could tell her that could change her mind, because i checked out some colleges and they don't have the stuff i want to do, like dealing with midi, recording and mastering, studio maintence and ect. so what do you thing i should do and what should you suggest. peace.

Yo, Full Sail is a wise choice... The price is up there but it is well worth it... And unlike most of the other recording schools out there, you can tell your mom that you get out of there with an Associate of Science degree and also now have the choice to continue further on to your Bachelor's as well... I am a graduate of Full Sail myself and would not do it any different if i had the chance to do it all over... The people there are great and they really help you out allot... plus, who wouldn't want to go to a college known as Rock and Roll University... (the only thing i have to say though is, be prepared for some crazy schedules and allot of missed sleep... but hey, welcome to the world of recording studios... i just got home from work at 7 in the morning from a session last night)

good question. At my school, I'm doing a report and presentation on a college of my choice.
I wanted to research a college related to music and I found Music Tech College. Type that in a ssearch engine and you'll find their website.
I showed my sis the college's website, and she felt that the school was bogus. It's a 2 yr private college... most likely cost an arm and a leg... So I'm glad y'all posted some music collges I'mma check 'em out when I get time

Schools like Berklee school of music, and music institute in L.A. have recording degrees. These schools mainly cator to musicians though. Some major colleges have music technology degrees like Northeastern in Boston. I go to a major college and am a music major I have classes that focus on MIDI, production, and recoding, but mainly my classes are fucused in writing music, playing my instrument and music bussiness . There's nothing really wrong with going to a regular college Full sail does give you a good education of recordinmg from what I hear, but why not get the music bussiness recording and music classes, and if you're not interested in playing an instrument or composing the music bussiness classes and recording classes are still good. Why pay all that money to go to recording school when you can get most of the recording classes and more at some regular colleges for the same price. if you're tryna produce too or get into the bussiness a regular college would be of interest. Just do some research see whats best for you.

i checked out music tech they sound pretty good so they are going to mail me some information but i am still going to look around, but i have been feeling georgia tech alot but to go there i have to have a 3.26 and its alot of money to, so pretty much i am going to have to get scholerships out the ying yang or enlist in the army so they can pay for it. but i'm still going to look around i don't graduate highschool untill 2006.

i'm enrolled in full sail for the august 2004 start date. I took a tour and fell in love with the place....facilities are world class, they got like 6 different recording studios some big enough to house an entire orchestra lol....its crazy....i got pics if anyone wants to see em....PM me

btw, the recording arts degree is $39,000 US....It just got bumped up from $35,000 on April 30th. Luckily I payed the deposit before then so i get the cheaper price!! lol

All them private recording schools are intrested in money reather then employment for there students, there rip off's, while its something you want to do, it worth researching, example have a look at this course,
http://media-arts.rmit.edu.au/Les_Walkling/B.A.intro.disciplines.html , click sound and soundtrack.
much much cheaper, try $3.500 AUD a year, which you pay later when you start working and earn over $45.000 AUD, theres always an alternative, i know its the other side of the world, but there would have to be some sort of B.A like this over there. buy a studio with that money, not a bit of paper ! :)

KC, I can assure you Full Sail is no rip off. I will support and back this school til the day I die, and I haven't even started yet. But I've talked to graduates, got the facts, and without a doubt, for engineering, Full Sail, is THE NUMBER 1 school for recording arts when it comes to getting a job. 78% get a job in their field, within the first year of graduating. And the other 22%, some of them lost contact with the school, changed their mind on careers etc etc. It's a lot of money but I've talked to lots of industry big wigs and all of them say if you're trying to break into the industry, and you don't have the contacts needed to get jobs etc, Full sail is the way to go.

Damn You Work For Them Now Swivel Just Playin, I Still Have'nt Made My Decision But I Have Been Looking At Fullsaid And Middle Tennesse State Universty They Have A Recording Engineering Course To. Only Thing With Fullsail Is I Don't Have That Type Of Money, Unless They Got Student Loans Or Grants.

Don't go to music school. Every punter is going to them from here to the UK. Too many people, not enough jobs.

Haha... Thats a really funny thing to say...

I'm thinkin about majoring in philosophy with a minor in music then goin to law school. I'm about to start my sophmore year at a 4 year university, Binghamton University. You gotta know the law in this business, with all the contracts n shit... I could also hook my associates up with legal advice and possibly criminal defense should a situation arise. Clive Davis went to Harvard Law School... I actually applied for transfer to NYU's Clive Davis department of Recorded Music but didnt get in... I dunno what happened... I had the grades and SATs... but I think the fact that I hadn't had any musical instruction since I was like 8 didnt help me. I needed a letter of reccomendation from a music instructor, which I just didnt include. I also rushed the application in an all night adderall induced psychosis. That might not have helped. I really wanted to go to NY and shit... but whateva... Gotta make the best of whats around...
