it depends on your production style

me, I'm more of a sample-based guy even tho I could play piano, guitar and violin. What I do is I usually start out at a lower speed, say around 75 BPM. Then I slowly change the speed til my samples loop right. Usually around 85-90BPM.

But like I said, to each of his own..
