"lol. That sounds like the classes didn't payoff with your statement."

I took a few courses for graphic design back in the day. They were very useful and introduced me to a lot of functions I didn't know about. It could be worth a shot. Also, although graphic design doesn't require manual drawing skills, it's still a nice skill to have. You can really make some interesting designs using mixed media (painting, drawing, photoshop, illustrator...). Anyways, just have fun with it, work on some tutorials in the meantime. There's so many, I'll see if I can post some better links up later.

Nah thats just how that stuff is. You can be super dope in PS and AI and still never utilize a 1/4th of those programs. Mainly because it depends on what you use them for. Some people just do logos. Others just do websites, etc. So you can see that unless your just designing on the side for fun and doing literally everything for that matter your simply not going to know everything about what the programs can do.

Couldn't agree more. I was really just making fun of Dream for his statement, but it is true.

all u web designers and graphic artist cats .. what do feel i the best way to learn all all this shit?.. i got photoshop a couple weeks ago, made a couple logos and altered some pictures and i am pretty much hooked on it. I figured out alot of it just playing around with it but i know i havent even scratched the surface of the program... do u guys just try diffrent shit or did u take some kindof course? also i wanna learn web design .. what do u guys feel is the best way to learn? take a course? read books?

lastly, i have a very shaky hand (prolly frm smoking so much weed lol) and i dont physically draw all that well... will that limit me alot in graphic design? ... one thing i do have though is very good stylistic taste and a strong ability to visualize shit really well. and i also am the type to work at something endlessly until i nail it so i know once the product leaves my hands it will be just right. I look at it this way, I cant play the keys but i can still produce, so why shouldnt i be able to do graphic design if i cant draw right? what r ur thoughts?

I want to make that shit a real source of income. here in nyc u can rack up serious dough just doing freelance work. But i dont wanna start taking jobs until imsure i can deliver a great product. How the hell do I learn this shit?

You learn this stuff by doing - I will say that classes are GREAT for learning the theory behind things (speaking in terms of web design) but hands-on is the most effective means.

There are millions of good tutorials online to pick this up and learn it.

If you want to make a living freelancing, you're in the right spot - NYC is freelance capital.

Your most important skill you have to develop is active listening, believe it or not, that's what separates those who sink and those who float.

I will say this: with the built-in templates that are available today "anybody" can create a site, but those people who can take a concept and transform it into a business functional web portal are the companies/individuals who enjoy repeat business.

Try browsing around GFX. There is a lot of good information there both in terms of how to handle software and how to draw.

I do my digital art with Corel Painter. It's pretty similar to Illustrator from what I can tell. I've hardly made a dent in the programs capabilities.

I've got some work up at GFX if anyone wants to look. I hardly get noticed though because there are some damned amazing artists there and it's pretty competitive.

I've got more stuff up on MySpace too, but their pictures are pretty low resolution.
