In this age of super fast instant gratification, I'm finding quality things(The more preferable of the two) are falling under the radar while people pumping out quantity are recieving attention (generally). In Shadeeds blog (based on my question: Internet Promotion...) he stated that everything is an event, and should be broadcast, start a blog, videotape.

my question is Do you hold back and develope it or do you do a bunch of sh!t and just put it out? I'm talking in terms of mainstream-everyday listener. which is going to be most effective? Is quality even still appreciated?

I.E. do I save up money (for possibly months) for a fairly good camcorder or just get a pretty crappy one with bad sound?

Is it better to focuse on getting those really good full omg-face-scrunched beats or do you get it pretty far and move on
*reminder this would be in the eyes of the consumer not u as a producer*

Whatcha think?

I guess if its mad important for you to get it out there then even your cell phone will do if the performance is bangin, but in the end people generally prefer a quality presentation over a shotty one I think.

IMO its immediately easier to appreciate someone elses craft if its brought 100% in regards to video and sonics for the modern day musician these days. Theres tons of variables at hand here tho as well, so this really cant be a definite answer if you dig what im saying.

No I understand completely thats why I want others opinions. From a mainstream perspective the consumer doesnt seem to care as much about quality. I'm curious if the sacrifice for cookie cutterness has settled in, in the minds of MOST consumers.

We want quality and will notice if its not, the consumer doesnt care about the loudness war , they dont care the entire mix redlines, but they expect the best and and they want it with fast food quickness.
Of course this is in general, Classic has turned me onto less mainstream music that is very quality, it will never sell in the Lil Wayne Soulja boi market though..
If your doing hiphop you have to decide what kind your going to do , lately, after 22 or so years of trying to make good Rakim/PE conciousness music I have switched to stripper songs, easier to make but it takes no less effort I assure you.
I think one should aim for quality until you are proven and know what your doing, THEN when you crank out quantity it will be above par natrually, so even if you take less time it will still sound pretty good.

Quality... but also something Innovative. I like producers who pay attention to every detail in every track/sequence.. from intro to outro. Delivering a full fledged production instead of cookie cuts. At the same time.. sometimes the simplest production is the best if the project can be seen with a defined direction and destination.

thats my two

I think the term "quality" is very subjective. (hate to use this but...)Laffy taffy was a wack beat in terms of the actual meat and potatoes of production

But extremely high quality for a club...

Nas is like - extremely high quality beat that really didn't get the credit (money making) it deserved in my opinion..

I say make high quality in high quanity...in an idealistic world, of course.

In this game it seems as if you have to make a high "quality" beat to get recognized then saturate the shit out of the game once you're in with quantity, it doesn't even have to be quality, your name would make it hot.

well I wasnt talking just about beats (Thanks for the replys) I meant the whole entertainment/Act package. Do you think non producers care about quality (over quantity) anymore?
