Djin got me started. Thats my first piece of equipment, some home stereo turntables. I taught myself to beatjuggle and scratch. Then once you got them 2 down, beatmatchin is a little easier. But i think (NOT ALWAYS) that the producers that djed first usually are a little more organized and better.

But hip-hop wouldnt be hip-hop without the dj's.

I can't believe I never saw this thread. Werd the dj started it all. I've been djin in some form another for 8 years now. And doing clubs, bars, lounges thruout nyc for the last 2-3 years.

But yeah dats how I got into producin. Comes a point where you ttired of just playing music and want to make your own. Especialy when you workin wit a group and yall just doing freestyles to otherpeoples beats.

Oh yeah im a turnrablist/scratch dj too. Jugglin scartchin body tricks all that. I don't battle tho cause the battle scene is realy shady and the comps are all fixed (I've seen many frueend and foe get jerked).

Guys remember there's a difference between a dj/ and a turntablist. You don't have to be 1 to be the other and its definarely a plus if you can do both.

Funny thing is I never realy incorperated my djin and scratching into my production.

Damn this a long post. Im done. Lol

I've been spinning since '93/'94, started out with techno ( from acid to hardcore/gabber ) breakz ( happy hardcore / raggaemuffin ) to D&B since '96 till now. Had been listening to a lot of hiphop at the time but I lived far away from any good recordstore in order to buy stuff ( except from a few ordered ones ) and I prefer digging through the crates for stuff. I started out with Lenco turntables I had built in a desk and a some cheap ass monacor mixer, then a JBL and another JBL, then Technics SL1200 with new Numark 1280 and finaly got a Dateq Apollo. Then I sold my babies because I was moving out and didn't bother with dj'ing for while ( I was doing more production and organising parties ). But I have been busy without the wheels ever since, I spinn every once in a while which is quite good considering Im the lamest dj on the block when it comes to promoting yourself. These days Im mixing with A&H zone and still the SL1200's and since 2 years ago I've took the effort to learn some basic scratching skills on a vestax pro5 MKI. Every once in 1 or 2 weeks I practice a bit but it's not much but so far I got a pretty rapid flares n cuts, a flawless backspinn even @ half a bar, and more ( im noob when it comes to naming the moves ). Sofar it's been really addicting but I havent put much time in it and also have no ambitions on becoming a turntablist. I rather situate myself behind the decks at a warehouse party and make the audience go beserk, knowing Im going to make em even crazier because only I know what effect the next record will have on em.

Im all about party on the decks, turntablism I feel is a exhibition of skills/art, not partytracks.

I started off learning to beatmatch/scratch. Slowly I saved up for one deck then finally another. Then I jumped straight to producing for a while. Now I jump back and forth from both. I learned to do basic juggling. Scratching was really frustrating at first, but now it's getting much better.

I should have just bought a nice sampler instead of the decks. Oh well, now that I already have them, mind as well elevate both skills.

Lol my story is similair. Only in advanced with the jugglin and scratchin. Lol

But werd man. Im 23 and when I turned 18 the summer of that year I got a acident settlement from a car accident when I was young. Well of course I knew what a mpc and a triton was back then cause I used to mess with them in a studio I interned @ in high skool.

What did I do when I got that money. Bought me a nice size mobile dj system (had 2 tech 1500s or was it 1100s and a gemeni scratchmaster mixer b4 that ) . Its served me well but I wish I bought the mpc and triton instead. After dat and spendin onfriends and family the money was gone soon after.

I think I love djin more then producin when I realy think about it now. Don't get me wrong I am a serious producer. I've been involved with music since 14 (when I did my 1st party with some 1 else 1200's) but next time I get a couple gs. Its a triton (studio or extreme) and mpc 4000 for me buddy. Lol

Cool man. I'm 20 right now. I bought my decks last summer. I've been playing different kinds of instruments ever since first grade. From piano to barritone to flute to guitar etc. I rented them from my schools and played in the bands. I didn't like any of them for composing. But I always loved hip hop so here I am.

Naw, that's 2 Vestax tt's and 2 Numark CDx CD tt's. On the real, the CDX joints is as close to the real deal as you can get right now on CD turntables.

Werd man. B4 those came out I loved the pioneer cdj 1000's. But the platter aint move. But the sound was accurate. Technics try to do it right but we all know how that turned out. Finally Numark did it. I love the cdx's and plan on gettin a pair soon as I can . But 1 question. How dare you put the cdx's on the inside next to the mixer and the turntables on the outside. J/k lol

Yeah, I just got the CDX's like a month ago, so I been on em a lil more than the turntables, just to get a feel for 'em, y'know. The setup'll prolly change once I get used to em.
