MPCs are 90% software. without the OS (sequencer, editor, effects, menus, etc) MPCs and most other beatmaking gear would have paperweight status.

anyway, isaac hayes' beats were sicker than anything anybody on this board makes and he didn't touch a sequencer. different strokes for different folks.

as far as I know the story goes that Timbaland was at a radio station doing interviews and while he was there they had a computer with Fruity Loops and asked him to check it out. He then made a dope beat live on air in like 15 minutes and complimented Fruity Loops and said he'd use it if he was coming up and didn't already have a gang of equipment.
