Tight and Crappy Recording Studio's

Anytime I buy a new CD, I just about always read where the artist did their recordings. I feel that good production is one thing but good recording is just as important. I've noticed a couple of artist {Jill Scott and Darius Rucker} with VERY high quality sounding recordings from Hidden Beach. Hidden Beachs CD's just have a superb sound to them. Everything is crystal clear and mastered so well.

If any of you cats know of other Recording Studios that also have superb quality or any that sound crappy most of the time holla back...

afetr doing some searching of my own I found that Michael Jordan is a silent partner st Hidden Beach Recordings. Did you know that when you buy Air Jordans you get a free cd with some hidden beach stuff on it?

Hey,

I would argue that it's not necessarily the studio itself which gives the good recordings, but rather the engineers and producers who make the records. Of course, many studios COME with engineers...and studios have their own sound to them: rooms, mics, preamps, etc.

A good engineer will probably make good recordings in any studio.

Soulja--Thats some cool info, when I read their bio, the first thing that popped in my head was that there were some major players involved with the studio. I think it's pretty cool that MJ is involved with them.

vitiminman--While your point is a valid one, this seems to be one of those situations that doesn't fall under the "not necessarily" ones. Hidden Beach has 13 artist and I've heard atleast "some to all" of the songs from 8 of them and they have all proven to have exceptional sound quality. Every BIG studio that I've personally visited and even some of the smaller ones have their own engineer involved in any major recording project even if the artist has their own sound engineer. He will usually sit in as support. Nobody knows the system better than the ones that actually operate it on a regular basis. Anyway, I'm not trying to turn this into a "Hidden Beach" thing...I'm more interested in other studios that have consistently put out high quality recordings, thats all.

Sterling Sound is a renowned mastering studio in NY, they have mastered tons of top 40 Hits including Hip-Hop and R&B music. I think they are pretty consistent with good sound quality. Check them out.

Every track I hear recorded at the hit factory in NY has some serious quality. They do good work.


Shitty quality:

Flat Broke Studio's (aka my homeboy's house) in Pleasant Hill, California. He had 2 turn-tables, a tape deck, and a radio-shack mic, no booth, no effects, 2 tracks. I still recorded there hella times for fun. We all gotta start somewhere hah.
