The orignal sound of hiphop....hmmm....this can be very confusing and you'll search for this answer for infinity. The original sound of hiphop is undisputed by the MC.
When hiphop first started it was an MC talking over DJ music. Then I was evolved into spinning the same type of record on two turntables. Any kind of music was used as long as it had a funky drum beat that can be rewinded over and over again to form a seamless loop.
MCs dug on the sound and decided to add lyrics that rhyme to the loops. Some of the early rhymes where battle rhymes. Everyone wanted to boast on how they are more skilled than others. Then the story telling came in.
The drum looping got kind of boring after a while and Grand Master Flash revolutionized the game with his spinback tactics. He was the best in the game and no one could compete. I really don't know who invented scratching, but GM Flash added spinbacks to it.
If you want to listen to some original hiphop stuff...go to ******** or usenet and search for:
Kool Herc
Treacherous Three
The L brothers
Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5...(original tapes...not commercial tracks)
These live recorded tracks are rare and hard to find, so good luck.
