Its like he doesn't have respect for his reputation. He would enjoy 13 year old kids to buy his shit vs. being admired as one of the greatest by everyone from 8 years old to 40

WHACK!
Sometimes the number of dollars on the table makes the reputation much less important.
And as a general rule all most mc's and even producers want nowadays is the money. We only worry about reputation if we are not getting paid. The problem with getting paid is that you become the employed which means you have a boss, ultimately its the boss that says what choices you will make or he will just take away the money. Music isnt about music, its about money. Hiphop is no longer about story telling its about money. Life isnt about being appreciative of what we have(no matter how small) anymore. Its about money and personal possessions. In todays world success is wealth. Not living a fruitful life helping to improve our local communities and making the world a better place for us all to live.

My main point is this, if you was offered $5m 2moro and had to prescribe to a preset image of what the paymasters set out for you that will destroy your reputation would you take the money and run?

^^ Good point

I also tihnk that the bar has been lowered in general. Compagnies go for the quick single to make that ringtone money since no one buys cds anymore. The labum dosent need 5-6 singles like it used too just 1-3 to sell ring tones. There is also more outlets for artists and more compagnies then in the 80s and early to mid 90s there for the market and business is saturated.

exactly, bottom line, I feel the same way...it would seem that the traditional way of blowing up and being successful in this game would be to come out and be original ( like those that he did alot of his jacking from ) however his personal success says otherwise. No matter what we think about him or JayZ, they both have made their mark in hip hop and that says enough on its on.

dac

Even though I really like Jay-Z, I see your point. I heard a freestyle cd with Lil' Wayne on it and I was laughing through the whole thing. Hehehe!

I know what you're saying and that is definitely some people's attitude but: music is still about music, hip hop is still about story telling and life is whatever YOU make it. Don't believe the hype.

And no, I wouldn't take the money and run, (as tempting as it would be).

I would have said the same thing before, and would like to say that still, but I have thought long and hard about that. And I would only be lying to myself if I said with 100% certainty that I wouldnt take the money. On balance I probably would take the money and provide a great life for my 3 kids, so they could have a comfortable life and not have to struggle through life the way Ive had to at times. Id like to have a pension when I get old, the way things are going I dont think Ill even get that, so to secure my future for the rest of my life and my childrens lives Id take it.

Actually mate, my children would be one of the main reasons I wouldn't take it. A secure future is very tempting but what would I be teaching my kids if I did that? Struggle sucks but it can be good for you too. Look at people you know that never had to struggle. I've got a couple of cousins who always got everything they wanted, including houses etc from their wealthy parents and guess what? They're selfish little arseholes. The easy way is rarely the best way.

Sincock, I hear what you are saying and have often held that belief myself. People that get everything on a plate tend to be unappreciative arseholes. I have grown up with very little and feel I have done well for it, but my mission in life now that I have children is to provide for them. Thats my job as a man and parent, you say a quick fix isnt always a good thing, but the money in the right hands, ie mine, I feel could be a good thing. Because of my upbringing I have learned to appreciate even some of the smallest things I have, its my intention to see that my kids are brought up to understand the realities of life and some of the hardships that it involves. Sometimes I feel hypocritical talking of hard upbringing when there are others in the world that have had it far far worse than me.
I feel that as long as my children are brought up with good moral values and understanding of the way the world works without spoiling them stupid, they could grow to be responisble with the money, investment over spending, the value of money, ie having to work for a living. I know the wrongs of giving a child everything and the results, I would hope that I would be a whole lot smarter with the money.
PS Not all wealthy people are arseholes, thats just another generalisation based on experience, that I generally share, but also realise its not really true. Whereas most spoilt kids grow up to be arseholes, is true.

Very well put. Its not about how you got that money to set the example, but how you use it to set the example.

Then I was thinking about ..
"Its been a long time, I shouldnt have left you,
Without a strong ryhme to step to."

then you could have a female vocalist going:

"If at first you don't succeed
Dust yourself off and try again
You can dust it off and try again"

I kinda agree with you in most points you make here. Of course, I'm not so idealistic that I wouldn't want the money and yes, it is what you do with it that counts but to me getting money by doing what has been suggested, ie becoming another Lil Wayne, is a bit like prostitution. That's the bad example I don't want my kids to see.

Oh yeah, of course not all wealthy people are arseholes at all. I definitely want to be more financially secure than I am now, no doubt.
