First Off,

MIDI is not to hook up mic's. MIDI is a real confusing concept and IMO it would be better for you to just stay away from MIDI til you start to undeerstand it more.

One Thing To Start You Off With:

Go to the following sites and request a catalog, they are all free and it will help you see some of the equipment people use for djing and recording and mixing:

http://www.pssl.com/catreq.tpl?UID=2004071709311075

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040717093140024061110069957906/g=home/cr/catalog/

http://www.samash.com/catalogsignup/

Those catalogs will be good for you to look through and see maybe something says "Phrase Sampler", now you can come here and ask us "What the hell is a phrase sampler?"

Your gonna hear a lot of people talkin about the MPC. The MPC is for MIDI PRODUCTION CENTER (or MUSIC PRODUCTION CENTER). There are a couple different versions but there all made by Akai. The MPC60, MPC60II, MPC1000, MPC2000, MPC2000XL, MPC3000, and the MPC4000. Its pretty much the beatmachine that most people get. But you DO NOT NEED one of these. Its just a very popular choice.

Ill give you a couple links to some equipment that a lot of people usually get:

Akai MPC2000XL-

Ensoniq ASR-10-

Ensoniq ASR-X-

Roland Fantom S-

Feel free to ask any questions.

Midi is ez, you just wont understand until you have hardware, intern. midi on a DAW can be confusing but the protocol is relativly simple.

it doesnt matter what you start up with. You have to have skillz and a good imagination to be creative enough to make good sounding beats. Also, you need a good ear for it. Most of the time, and like 95% of members in here, you like what you are hearing from your speakers but to other people your music is crap! a good ear makes you distinguish whats hot and whats not!

FL is a good start. Learn the concepts first before trying to make your billboard hit! its not that easy. take your time and learn as much as you can. This shit takes patience and a lot of time invested in it.

Good Luck
